DDS Editing Help

Whenever I open a dds in photoshop, the part that is suppose to be transparent is black. What setting do I need to set it on so that it shows up transparent in conquer. I've read the editting dds sticky, couldn't figure out how to edit these properly, or maybe its how you save the file. Any tips so I can get transparency?
