Players opinions of current private server options.

If possible because I know this group is more and more "just us" as the years go by I'm hoping to get more of the player/customer side of opinion on the current server options and what they would prefer.

If possible i'd also like this forum to be as informative as possible without the flames so I want the players to drop truth on us and for us to not get upset?

Such as my example, I've decided to help Epoch out - I know some of you may be surprised but those of you that know me know I'd like to get get along with everyone any way.

As a player of Epoch I'm going to say - the drop rates are too easy, but I've always tried to make 1.0 HARD servers here and they didn't blow over well so I ain't mad.

As a player of ConquerClassic I have the same complaint - thought I feel conquer classic is even more giving - and I feel defeated personally when its not much of a challenge I don't feel like there's a longevity sense.

Any takers?

Most private servers, including mine when I was running one, have the same issue. You can't have rates as low as the official game otherwise nobody will join, but you typically end up with rates where people almost max their equipment in a year or two, at which point, there's little interest to play. It's hard to keep interest in private servers without adding a lot of new content, but at the same time, you want to keep it true to the original game. Maybe the best thing would be to introduce slowly features (e.g. only 1st reborn at first, no blessing, etc, and you slowly introduce these other features to extend the interest).


During Christmas, I started playing Conquer Origins, and honestly, congrats to Nyorai for the work he's done. I really feel like the good old days when I was playing, while still having slightly better rate so I don't feel that I'm loosing my time looting. The balance seems right and well, it's a great replicate of the original game.

conquer 1.0 is half the problem.
It had its limitations in 2003 - 2005, and still shows those same limitations as owners/devs try to replicate it.

CptSky here you are right Nyorian managed to do a pretty good job with the classic server. He added from what I saw some beautiful new buttons where you can test and buy garments. The server content looks very good <3 and takes you to the classic version :). And there are a few more servers near the classic. Primal and Classic Conquer (Gods) for me are the best. They have a good team behind them that knows what to do! So my respect and congratulations!

I agree but eventually you'll hit a barrier like every classic server does like you mention that people can kill each other with x gears, thus no reason to push yourself. TQ made a decent system with BP at that stage (But poorly design numbers on it). Overtime you'll have to depart from the "classic mindset" when new content is release to keep people occupied in new things to do.

I'm personally not a fan of BP. Its imaginary "defense" based on gear/levels/etc.

It's amusing to me you mention slowly dropping the patches to re-live through the experience we remember considering I was tossing this same idea around last night with epoch.
It's also amusing you mentioned one year gameplay duration - currently it appears the bulk of the servers allow folks to max in a month or 2 tops.

This is the best result of this question I could have imagined - especially coming from someone as respected as yourself - I mean you know how appreciated you are/were to our endeavors here.

This I do understand entirely. Now that chris is long gone.... Raw was really just Apex that I was given access to to skin over to brown/ 1.0 look. He changed the list of things I felt were necessary to pass off the look/feel but I personally always felt the best approach is to "fake 1.0 with the systems and client of 2.0"

It's always pleasant to receive feedback - but I feel there is sure to be more that you could share as far as buttons to sell garments? Not a challenge just I wish there was more meat here for the lot of us to gain from.

Yeah - you know, I too hated BP upon its' inception but I did play what 5more years past it and got to experience a load of rather interesting systems that i feel could bring value to the private side today. I believe (and not just because we are buds, actually he won this argument over me.) that you actively CAN modify the BP calculations to trim the effects it weighed as far as player to player damage is concerned. BP was tied in intricately everywhere and I'll be honest I don't know how to use a more modern client and strip BP entirely out like chris had claimed to have done. That's just where my skill lies now.

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Origins has been the server with the lowest rates in a while after Raw (possibly Legacy? Can't remember the rates) - I honestly don't check on other servers that often so this could be completely wrong. We initially launched the server with ~x1 rates and ran with those for a couple months. We did have quite a loyal and large player base from Shannara and even with that it was quite hard for us to grow the server so we began increasing the rates overtime. I believe the sweet-spot was around x2.50 for experience (since it's honestly what players value the most - possibly meteors as well). We've since then increased it to x3.50 to make up for the server's age (over 2 years).

This being said, I've ran both an 'high' and low rate server and I believe there's room for both, they have entirely different audiences. The latter is probably smaller but more loyal than the former. It also needs much more time, dedication and ideas to keep things challenging and interesting overtime.

I can't recommend Epoch for the fact that Matek and Diab (I apologize if I got it wrong) have been getting flagged by our anticheat back and forth from their aimbot business (no hard feelings) :p

I really appreciate this feedback, specially since it's coming from you! That was exactly our goal, make players feel like the server is hard but at the same time rewarding after a bit of work.

Thank you for your feedback as well. I can't comment on the other server you mentioned because I honestly haven't heard that much about them but I'd also like to show my support for Primal since they've been around for a while and from what I know and have been told Moh is definitely dedicated to it and knows what he's doing.

We reside in the same boat on not being hip on what is out there.
I was pulled back by a friend(player) who was previously involved with Epoch/Diab. I've heard some information regarding questionable tatics by the team but I try my best to experience people for who they are to me. I've gotten along with most of the epvp folks; the list of folks I haven't had the opportunity of working alongside is shorter than the opposite.
Sadly - I haven't yet had the opportunity to work alongside yourself Nyorai - unless we shared a space 10+ years ago and your name had changed.
I mean - I worked with yukki - he fucked mo, I worked with chris - he fucked all of us, I worked with ulti and he fucks everyone equally(I don't know his whole history but I'd blindly defend my bud.) I guess it's sorta at least realistic to note it's not outside of character for me to be teaming with some questionable folks. Fuckin' queenofvenom was in my retail guild - sigh. I'm very tolerant?

But yeah outside all of that I appreciate your candor - and I actually agree on many points on your experience with your rates and the community I just feel like you're getting close to reading a novel at this point heh.

To me, conquer 1.0 is an unfinished product. Well it was beta... It had so much potential, which when 2.0 first came out, started to tap into the potential. There is so much to expand upon in this game. When I came back last year, I have tried out quite a few private servers, but I still felt that "unfinished" vibe that I felt back then. For me, Its not about replicating the conquer scene that we remember back then, it's about grasping the essence of the game, and expanding upon that essence. Everytime I played a new game, first thing that comes to mind is, if only they had a pvp system like conquer. And I know for a fact that many out there had the same thoughts as I.

I can't comment much on the newer conquer versions since I left the scene shortly after drills and plus stones were added to shop, I just remember how BP ruined any fairness the game had.
I did come back to conquer a few years later for a month on a friend's account, to say hi to a few friends, and saw how all the systems tied in to the battle power. It almost felt like new systems were constantly added as an on going struggle to balance BP. I can see why there is issues of stripping out BP in a more modern version.

If there is anyone who DIDN'T know - I didn't build or own Legacy Conquer. I tried my best to be the "face" but the weight (and finical strains in my personal life) was "too much" for me to bear. I at the time went into a dangerous spiral of self depreciation - and coming out of it the mistake I made was not communicating MY issues and my reasons. I thank you ulti - there was a time you welcomed me back without the current issues I caused and that helped me crawl out of my situation. I still rely a little too heavily on psychedelic drugs to feel OK.
I got everything I wanted with legacy - even the best developer (in my opinion). I dare not claim to own it - I don't have a copy don't ask me in 10 years it belongs solely to ultimation.

Additionally I recommend anyone who thinks they want a proper working server that if he's hip - ultimation is the man you want. Not just him but his network of friendships are the absolute key to ~all this right here~.

Facts stand - best damn time I've had yet doing CO shit. Regardless if I fucked up and lost a friend in that.

I have been part of this community as a lurker/player for a long fucking time. Imo, all the current offerings bore me. The best out there currently is Conquer Origins I think. However, I'm sick of 1.0. Every damn server is targeting the same audience it seems.

I really enjoyed Conquered Lands/BruteCO as it was a 2.0 server that wasn't afraid of having some of the fun and quality of life updates that came with 2.0 (looking at you auto spammer).

I agree with you, CO 1.0 is kinda boring. Conquer Origins is a fucking good server for those who like the v1.0 of CO. I played ConqueredLands(actual BruteCo) from the early days of server. Pretty sad that the server died and Twelve gave up on revive it. I'm still hopping someday server will back. The custom things added over the classic co server are pretty balanced and was really fun to play there. Server community was frendly and was a good place to spend time on this server.
