Single Player Conquer 2.0

So I was thinking,

Diablo has both single and online player modes, why can't CO?

The coder (not me for now) could make their own server emulation program to act as the "server", basically just adding AI to the client side. The user would have complete control over drops and whatever else they need.

This project would be massive, you're basically programming a single player game, but it would be awesome just to have it at a LAN party with whatever stuff you wanted just messing around. Options to make your own maps, create weapons, and even new monsters would be awesome along with the amazing accomplishment of programming the game.

This probably would never happen but it would be awesome if someone(s) took the time to do it.

except that how is the client going to parse the ai? unless you could code it with the monsters, highly unlikely though. Ive done some ai programming a while back, ill look into it and see what all i can pull up. But honestly, i can never go back to only playing single player, why play conqer as single player?
