Question about sp/equip upgrading

Hello friends, I'm a completely newbie, I would ask to you if there's a method to know beforehand if an upgrade of sp or equip will success or will fail. I mean, during the process (the "dance") is there any way to know if that upgrading will fail so we could interrupt it?

No there is no known way. Maybe if you go to some fortune teller and ask them wheather it will success or not.
