Dude, you better start studying how to do a basic documentation of something.
It isn't even a thread.

I tutored in all undergraduate Computer Science courses, and not once did a student come even close to this garbage. This is bottom of the barrel, and spreading/hosting this code is the reason why this community is dead. Copy paste servers that can't teach anyone, can't host a fan base, can't be iterated on, and drives players away from our servers. It's the reason why servers are so fucking awful. Servers should be hosted by passionate programmers, artists, and players working together, not some moneygrabber hosting this trash.

Nice source. 10/10 would throw in the trash.

Just wondering what's so bad about this source except ugly design, outdated coding practices and outdated libs? Assuming it works (haven't tested) what's bad about taking this source as a base, fixing the flaws I mentioned and building on it? Asking because I really don't know.

The short:

Because it's extremely poorly written.

The long:

I'm going to flame a bit, and just know that it's not at you specifically. These sources are Frankensteins of various paid "programmers" copying and pasting shitty code for a fast and dirty buck. They don't give a shit if it blows up in someone's face, bugs a player out, causes deadlocks or exploits (hell, most also contain malicious back doors), which is why you're so much better off starting from scratch or using a better source as a base. In fact, anyone using these sources are idiots - by ignorance or ineptitude. They harm our players and programming community. And most people who use bases are also people wanting to learn how to program or care about the organization of a source so they can build on top of it easily (take World Conquer for example who did that super successfully). This source is the worst possibly choice for any of those angles. The only person this source is for is the moneygrabbing dirtybag who gets tricked into thinking it's worth a damn.

First of all, thanks for explanation. Second, I took no offense as I wasn't planning to take this source and build on it (I'm currently studying and working on Albetros and World Conquer v2 just for the fun of it. And if I ever decide to go public with a server, I probably won't have a shop as I can easily afford a server). I was just curious because I see your bad comments on various sources without much explanation. I'm partially new around here and even though I know my way around c++, c# and socket programming overall, I still have a lot to learn about Conquer systems and their proper implementation. I also can see how this source is a Frankenstein as it uses different styles across various implemented features.

It's been hard not to feel jaded over the past decade of this community being in a bad state. I'm only here because I care about my project work, and occasionally someone like Moh or pintinho12 will come along. Most of the private servers just attract gamblers now, or whales looking to dump dumb money into a burnable character for 3-4 weeks. Private server owners just follow along with the same idea of "I'll make a ton of money". They buy one of these awful sources for like $700-$1300 and then scam the next person with it after they make money from players. It's a vicious community - but I'd like to think our little subculture keeps the passion alive for some players and server owners.

The reason the community keep dying it is because these such servers exist. These owner care very little about there servers and put little to 0 time to improve them. They purchase the source cash out the money and rinse and repeat, ddosing other servers and trying to steal players from major servers (by lying and spreading rumors). Over a long period of time this has been happening and has been destroying the community from the inside out.

Thread cleaned, keep it civil. Move your drama to PMs.

how to change ip adress for start client?
04/14/2020 05:58 devidlucas2019#14
good evening
does anyone know where this client's server data is?

I know this thread isn't getting deleted, but I request that it at least be closed.
Here's my justification:
  1. The thread owner has zero intentions on supporting the source
  2. The community has zero intentions on providing support
  3. The source code does not belong to the thread owner
  4. While this thread continues to get spammed, it bumps it to the top above sources we do recommend people use
  5. This source code has no benefits and only harms the community
  6. If this becomes the new normal here, I think more people will leave. When I was a mod, I flat out deleted these threads.
