What skills do I need to make my own P-Server

Good day everyone,

since I was younger I always wanted to create my own Private Server of Shaiya. But because I neither had time nor € I let this dream pass away.

Now, since I'm older and have some financial stability + time, I would like to give it a try.
The problem: I have no IT skills. So my questions are:

What skills (especially IT-Skills) do I need? I'm willing to learn but I need to know what I have to learn.

Talking about Server, the common things happening to server are, that they get DDOS ... how can I prevent that from happening, do I just need to buy better Protections or is it something else? Any recommendations?

These are the main Questions I got so far, I would be pleased if anyone could answere them.
