How does the damage system work?

03/03/2019 18:46 lordkalipo#1
I am very interested in buying good weapons and armors for swordman, but... I’ve been playing nostale for a long time now, and I still don’t fully understand how the damage system works. How important is the jewelry? And what is important for your armor and weapon shell options? How important are the boots and gloves?
If anyone knows, welcome to answer :)

It might be usefull [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]
Summary :
Non crit Non soft = (atk-def)*boost
Crit Non soft = (atk-def)*crit*boost
Non crit Soft = ((atk*soft)-def)*boost
Crit soft = ((atk*soft)-def)*crit*coost
With those formulas, you can understand that soft damage are litteraly broken.

boost = fibi/hat/jennifer's hat/...

"How important is the jewelry?"
Imagine you get 10 000 damage from a non-critical hit. He has 200% critical damage, you have 0% critical damage reduction. He will hit you 30 000 in critical hit. If you have a jewel with 50% critical reduction (45% is maximum, but let's imagine), he will have 150% critical damage. So, you will get 25 000 damage. It is really important to have decent jewels.

"How important are the boots and gloves?"
Stats are important (+100 def/dodge/150...), it really increase your survability (100 def is something like 15% of your overall defense at the levels 88~95. You won't be 15% tankier, because soft damage are just broken, but you will be tankier.
Resistance are, imo, the most important stat in defense. If you have 5000 armor with 75% resistance, you will get one shot. If you have 0 armor with 200% resistance, you won't. (Except against Scoot fully buffed)

And what is important for your armor and weapon shell options?

Weapon :
(don't have the exact english name)
S - Damage
S - Damage pvp
are the two main damage option. S - Break def is interisting, but when you have 3000 attack, the opposent got less than 1500. So 2% break def = 1% damage with those values.
If you want to play with elementary damage, prefere a "S - Reduce Resistance" with a "A - Reduce resistance to water/fire/whatever".
Also, "SL" are really important (get at least 100 attack with 60 hp. At least.

Armor :
If you don't have great resistance, just go for a S - Increase your resistance with nice dodges values. Defense pvp is also a must have (just pick a S res random pvp shell, and you got what I'm telling you)

good explanation, well done.
So basically if the enemy has 3000 defence and you have 3000 atk, pvp def down and pvp s dmg are leading to the same dmg output? (Ofc without any kind of booster)

EDIT: one more think i'd like to know, if you have double s def on your armor for example something like 55%, wouldn't that cause pvp def down to be more usefule then s pvp dmg?

Yes

In some conditions, break def can be powerfuller than s damage, but it is really rare (he needs to have a lot of def and you need to have few attack)
Anyway, Damage pvp is really a must have. Choose between S reduce resistance and S break def
