Router suitable to run a private server on?

the current router is a cheap boxy netgear and it can't even handle two connections from outside to a conquer server it seems.

For those who have ran a small private server for their friends, what routers are suitable?

Ask your ISP. They'll actually be able to tell you what to replace for a slow connection, cause it might also be your modem. And they'll know which modems work with your network. Too many variables for us to solve with the no information you gave us.
