9D pretty much done for?

It seems like all the private servers that have opened up after Play9D have been low populated servers that have died off, 9D Pretty much done for?

The 9D private server scene is stuck in a dilemma. To provide a reasonably good server, as an owner, you have to do this as a full time job. This means you have to live from the income the private server produces. The Problem: The majority of the playerbase doesn't want to pay. They want everything for free. This doesn't work out. As a result you only have shitty servers from owners who have no time since they have to get their income from alternative sources and only deal with the server on evenings and on their freetime.

Seems you dont know anything from the actual situation. Only thing we are stuck with is the file, Income it's quite nice. On Eclipse we are working on something that will compete with actual Official Server.

Define "Nice". Can you live of it? I very much doubt it. Files might be outdatet. But if you 100% work for this server you can still manage to provide something worth playing but then again, with the income it provides you can't afford it.

I don't understand why people would play a MMORPG only to reach a ceiling in terms of content....

It's a global misconception here. Currently noone can afford living based on a 9D server. The KR content is being updated regularly and anybody, thinking of making profit, based on old files is a fool. Players want (of course) the newest patch and they want it for free. This doesn't work in real life and will never do, so future server experts should pay attention to players and what they are ready to spend on the game.
