I'm curious as to what this means:
1664: CastServer Started
1664: Provider::initialize<>
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server [DBNETLIB][ConnetionOpen (Connect()).
]SQL Server does not exist or access is denied
1664 [CRITICAL ERROR] SP_GUILD_SERVER_ID_SET SUCCESS
I installed the SQL server properly. Ran the commands like I should, started the dbmon then when i started cast it gave me this. Any help is much appreciated.

I also have that error but fortunately I managed to fix it.

Things to remember.
1. Did you installed sql2000 service pack 4.
2. Did you already configured System DSN? (ODBC in controlpanel/datasources)
3. Did you already set up the sql analyzer?

you can refer to this guide here. credits to warmonger
coz for some reason, i can't post r a g e z o ne link here. Thanks to warmonger for the guide! Good job man!

Step 5: System DSN

* 1. Start Data Sources (ODBC) Located In Windows XP At Start -> Control Panel -> Performance And Maintenance -> Administrative Tools -> Data Sources (ODBC), Go To System DSN Tab Then Click Add.
(If You Cant Find It Try Going To Start -> Run -> Type In "odbcad32.exe" And Hit Enter)
* 2. Select The SQL Server Driver (Its At The Bottom) And Click Finish. Choose "account" For Name And Your SQL Server "Name" For Server. Dont Use [local] It Doesnt Work. To Obtain It Put Your Mouse Over The Server Tray Icon, Right Click Go Into Open SQL Server Service Manager, Select The Server Name, And Right Click -> Copy. Paste That As Your Server Name
* 3. Choose SQL Server Authentication -> Connect To SQL Server To Obtain Settings Use "account" As User, And "account" As Password Then Click Next
* 4. Click Next Then Finish And OK.

pls click 'thanks button' if you like.

Ok i searched adn here's the problem you all dont address. YOU ALL THINK PEOPLE ARE USING VMWARE I'm not using vmware I've got XP pro. You told me to go to the 1 click setup, cant do that. I DONT USE VMWARE So back to my initial problem.
01/24/2010 03:15 janvier123#9
if you used vmware, you should install 1click server
and that is pre-made
everything is working in there, if you changed it, its your fault for breaking it
if you didnt install 1click, use localhost as IP (mostly 127.0.0.1)

he IS NOT using vmware

and obviously he either did not install the sp4 package properly(which is my best guess), or he did not put in the correct user/password in the servers config files
