Making classic game

I bought a conquer server from a friend and have been working on fixing bugs, changing rates and finding how I want my server to be when finished. I want to make it a classic game with lots of fun for everyone but I'm not sure on a few things and was hoping maybe some others could say what they prefer.

Should I use gold only? I like the idea but I'm scared people will find it very annoying having to pick up gold all the time to buy items. I played some classic servers that let VIPs pick up gold automatically but I think that could be unfair to others if its the main way to buy things....


I want to do LOW rate. I've not found any classic servers to play that have that nice hard feeling that conquer gave but I am worried that not enough people want this.. if you were to join a new classic server how hard would you want it? Dragonball per thousand, 10 thousand, 25 thousand or something else?

I have been studying programming in school and finishing this game has been fun for me. I just don't want my server to be too empty for all the work when finished so if you have any suggestions I would like to hear them.

The center of the community says rates below what Apex/Shannara had are just setting yourself up for failure. I partially agree. I love low rate but people aren't always willing to spend days and days leveling just to have mediocre pvp endgame. We have all seen a fair amount of servers try to mimic original conquer rates and not many stayed around for long. The fresh server excitement may attract people early but if you are lacking on content it's bound for failure. People just get bored.

Anyhow, good luck on however you choose to approach that.

Ok so I see what you are saying with low rates but what do you think about gold only? It makes the game feel more classic to me but I can see it causing some problems for players who dont want to loot gold from monsters and would rather only buy and sell items they find or make... Having CP might be a good thing to help make things less frustrating and just not have a mall or make it so the mall doesn't have items besides garments or something.


The source is a classic source that my friend Steve sold to me named redux. It plays very well in my work so far but I'm making sure to keep adding more to it and look for issues before I try to launch a server.

Yeah I think Apex-like rates will be good especially when you're targeting the classic community and they've been through many private servers and not up for months of grinding, also keep an eye out for people selling for money because some people make a living out of private servers and they shorten its life span a lot.

CP included economy will usually rid gold of most of its uses besides repair, simple npc purchases and guild-related stuff. I like gold only but it creates a much more difficult time for players to boost items.

Creating an involved and stable economy is a key in having a successful server. I think gold only typically gives you a higher chance for that stability; rather than giving people the availability to get whatever they want out of the shopping mall without interaction with other players. At least imo.

I tried the one here and what I have is very different. It has many different events and quests so I'm only looking for bugs and to customize how I want the server to play. I am very happy with the work I have done so far I just hope players will feel the same.

I agree. Having CP makes gold not be worthwhile to farm which kills the classic feeling for me. I think the best way is to have a cosmetic point system to unlock garments. That way no mall is needed. Offer it as a true classic all gold economy.

I think I prefer the events of apex and the game systems of shannara. If I was going to describe my server in a sentence I think that is the best thing to say. All gold game with newbie helping systems and no 2nd rebirth like shannara with events and quests more like apex is my current goal. I also am thinking I will not add new 2.0 gems and will then make my own unique tournaments to make the server feel very special. It's a big dream but I can hope :handsdown:

make the level a medium rate, the items and gold would be low rate. so player won't get bored, because these day players aren't so sure that the server will take longer, all they think is to get items fast. I would prefer the Vote system, if the player will vote they can get 3-6 hours of VIP.

Also I prefer Love2hate's approach to hunting than these servers today with the 30 days vip thing, in l2h you voted/spent online points for an hour of "better hunting" which is a version of the currently implemented vip in shannara, I think this 30 day vip shortens the server's span alot and allows for people to make a living off the server.

I am working on a system like you talk but its a bit more custom. CP wont be used in the server so instead I will make that place in inventory used by a server activity point. You get activity points from being online and not afk, voting, fighting in pvp events and others. Then you use those points in an activity shop (mall) to buy temporary character boosts. Here's some of the boosts I've designed so far but I would like more ideas.

30 minutes 2x exp for yourself
20 minutes 3x exp for yourself
30 minutes +25% +1 item droprate for yourself
30 minutes +15% dragonball droprate for yourself

30 minutes +10% gold droprate for whole server
Summon 10 squama positions in game. Rush to find them before rest of server does
Summon a treasure goblin for yourself. vanishes if not killed after 30 seconds
Summon exp monster in promotion center. Like in QO you will deal 1 dmg hits but gain large amounts of exp every strike
10 minute treasure goblin event. All monsters on server when killed have a small chance to summon a treasure demon which can drop rare items but vanishes if not killed after 30 seconds



Some events are greedy and only help yourself and others make events for whole server. I am hoping that will keep that free to play feel where what matters isnt 30 day vip but instead how active you are in the game.


I like the idea but maybe you see a big problem I'm missing?

I do like the idea but gathering these points only seems worth it when you're still leveling up or you're an archer so maybe add garments or talismans to the rewards mix too.

My thinking is that as a newbie you will focus on greedy personal rewards like bonus rates but when you are high level those are no longer worth much to you. Instead you do things that entire server can benefit from such as summoning world bosses which you can then fight off other players to defeat or starting other events.

The points cant be traded so you have to use them even if the server wide reward isn't that big for yourself, it's still free stuff for being active in game and at the same time it helps out the newbies.

I've been working very hard to test and balance and I will be making the server ready for players tomorrow!

I will make many new features as the server grows but my project is about making sure it is a fun, balanced, fair classic server for people to play right from initial launch for a long time to come.


Full announcement and website will come tomorrow. I am doing last bit of testing and changes now.


I have finished online points system and created items to spend points on. You earn points by playing events and for being online (not afk). Points cant be traded but can be used to buy random garment boxes, vip token, 2x/3x exp potion, +1, met, gold droprate boost potion or token to summon experience mob for server.

Garment system is unique! There are 4 tiers of garments. Online points can be used for garment box which can give the tier1, 2 and 3 garments. Donations can give tier 4 garments. If you have garments you dont like you bring them to market to trade for cosmetic points. You use those points to get new random garment of tier you want.


I am so thrilled to play a server with gold only and low rates. I hope other players will join in the experience when we launch the game tomorrow!

I would still advise against any vip tokens that last more than an hour.
