I recently purchased a alienware desktop, Maxed out.

Currently Hosting - Switching To Windows Server 2003 In A Couple Of Days, Will Be Able To Support Multi-Servers.

well , its nice to have a hosting computer

but are you sure you know what you are doing and how to set it up ??

beside , the ram is nice but windows xp can only handle 3GB (exept if 64 bit edition , then it is 4GB )

but what i was wondering
you going offer free hosting , thats nice

but you know what problems you going have ?

1) server need to be online 24/7
2) server need cooling because it going get overheat after a couple of days that it stands online 24/7

3) windows xp for hosting is kinda ... rubish (not bad meaned , but windows for hosting :S, single website is fine but more websites on xp is not that good)

4) the download speed is nice , but the upload speed is crappy (upload speed of your comp becomes the download speed of other users , so if your download is low and upload fast then it is better then now )

5) to safe kinda trouble is it better to place it in a datacenter (cost around 50$ for colocation if i am not wrong)

6) i dont know if you know how to setup dns and ip adresses for dns servers and virtual dirs to assign to every1

so , thats a lot

its not to break you down , its nice that you want to offer free hosting , but it will give a lot of problems

then if i can give you some advice
first put windows 2003 on it (enterprice edition , up to 64 ram if 64 bit edition )
so you can assign every1 a serperated desktop , so you dont need to mess around with teamvieuwer

anyway , i added you to msn because i like to try it out if you dont mind :D

um crasher not to correct you but windows 32 bit can use up to 4 gigs of ram, 64 bit can use up to 8 gigs.

i know this because i am using a 32 bit os on my lappy and its 4 gigs and uses it all

32 bit os..what os you mean??Linux kernel with PAE extension can recognize up to 4 gb ram on 32 bit...

Memory limits really come down to the OS it's self and at the same time as does the processor's being used.

If you used a crappy CPU but yet had a big app that needed a crap load of ram the CPU just would not have the address range to reach those values, so your OS could have up to 5tb of max physical memory, but your CPU could then limit your programs to only be able to use 512mb of ram at any given time (this would be extrememly low end stuff).

Now dibiase, could I suggest next time when you decide to waste money on a computer atleast get what you pay for. I just see too many people wasting their money on pre-built computers when they could shop around a little and have all the parts sent to them for less then 1/2 the price. Most places will also build and setup your computer if you do not know how for about another 20-50$.
I would be willing to bet that yes you have alot of ram but.. I would say it's most likely budget DDR2 (800mhz) stuff. So you might aswell use your HDD. In theory yes your CPU is "Fast" but it's well outdated and massively overclocked (unless I am mixing it up with a different 5200+ model, ie. the 2.6ghz or 2.8 can't remember.)
Also AMD are mainly made for gamers and not servers. I myself am building myself a new computer, yes it's going to cost a fair bit but it would cost alot more for the same "specs" as I will get but I will be getting better value and preformance then going through these cheap companies that sell outdated and useless parts.

Your computer is only as good as it's weakest part. Example, with my new computer when it's able to be used it will be let down by the HDD atfirst until I get the SSDs that I want.
My Bus Speed = 1600 (can be OC easily to 1800). Ram Speed (2ghz - but limited to the bus speed sadly). CPU Speed (2.66ghz or 3.06ghz - not decided yet) - can be easily OC to 4-5ghz. But sadly I will only have a regular 3gb/s SATA drives until I can afford another 400-800$ to get a couple SSD drives for OS and frequently used applications/software/OS.

If your curious to what parts they are:
MotherBoard: ASUS Rampage-II Extreme (Made by RoG specifically for Overclocking and gaming)
CPU: i7 920 or 950 (both have 8mb of cache - which is a big let down on your Athlon)
RAM: 2x (Corsair CMG6GX3M3A2000C8 6GB (3x 2GB) (2000MHz) DDR3 For X58 MB/i7 Core, 3x240-pin DIMMs, Triple Kit, XMP 8-8-8-24 1.65V) - 12GB

And honestly I am still shopping around for a good video card to Dual SLI or X-Fire

64 bit is less limited , cant explain why (need to search for it :P)

and ntfs is like 64 bit (doesnt have a limit yet )

and then the other funny part

and try to fill it on a 32 bit edition , you will notice that it doesnt works like it should be , you can use 3GB ram before it start writing to virtual ram and then it loads again a max of 3GB ram (virtual is hd space) even if you got 4GB ram , it doesnt fill more then 3GB ram before it start writing to virtual ram

but thats what i know of it and what i learned from my experiances with it

its posseble ofcourse that i am wrong to :S

You're wrong, you only have to look at the link I posted for proof.

Also as to your "FAT32" comment, again you're wrong.
Windows are the one that made "FAT32" which is just FAT limited to 32gb partitions. FAT itself has always been limited to 4gb Files. As for NTFS (New Technology File System) has nothing to do with "32 bit or 64 bit" it's just a "new" way to storing and reading files from the way FAT system does it.

Its also the motherboard who decide who much ram you can install and use, some chipset are limited to eg. 8gb ram,dosent matter what os you run it on, it wont adress moore than 8gb of ram (on a 64bit os)

4gig of ram on win xp pro 32bit
Then windows xp pro cannot adress moore than about 3,25gb of ram,even if you have installed 4gb +...(32bit) ( it might show 4gig)

If you whoever run many programs and use moore than 3,25gb of ram, the os will switch to pagefile (pagefile is setup eiter automatic or you can set the size of the pagefile youreself),thats a part of the hdd windows will use instead of ram,or when the system ram is used up. If pagefile are used,the system will be slower because using the hdd as ram is not the fastest way to communicate with the cpu.
