what is the difference between the
Windows Server 2012R2 Datacenter (64 bit) and Windows Server 2008R2 Standard (64 bit),

i know that the recommended Operating system (O.S) for the server is 2008r2
i want to know if it's ok if i will going to use the Windows Server 2012R2 Datacenter (64 bit)? or there will be a problem with my server?

i am using v15 base files *I think* and I'am using SQL 2008r2

Haha Ace is now a Security expert xD
As long as you keep your software ul to date you will be safe.
Highest security risk is your configuration. Do not open the sqlserver to the public and create accounts with the needed rights(dont use sa or winauth)
Same thing for the OS. Only install trusted software. Use a random Admin password, dont trust anyone.

You can go safe with 2008 R2.
But to be safe, you'd better go with 2012.

DataCenter is the "best" version that you can get with WinSrv.
It has a memory limit of 4TB und unlimited virtualization capabilities.

If you want a stable environment, better take two VPS servers.
One for your SQL Server, one for your applications.
