I have a question. You're using PDO, which is fine. Why are you not using prepared statements?
It offers secure escaping of all additional parameters in an SQL-Query for the price of a few more lines.
Your Sql::secure-function is far too restrictive and will fail especially for ownerByCharName.

(Or is there a problem with the PDO-Driver for mssql?)

too lazy to use prepared statements man you can do it yourself it's not that hard

there's absolutely no problem with PDO MSSQL i just happened to be comfortable with ODBC you could change it from odbc to mssql
