Thinking of a new server

Would anyone consider playing an oldschool 1.8 Server, with no super-crazy rates, and absolutely no donations whatsoever?

I've been feeling very nostalgic lately, and I could consider taking money out of my own pocket to fund a server every month, without having donations on the server.

Majority of the replies here will probably be "fuck no, get a newer expansion" -- well, I'm not interested in any newer expansion. I miss the old days of BOI where an Oracle fragment wasn't something you just wiped your arse with, it was actually worth something.


I'd imagine rates would be around x20/x10, no donations, and some daily zen. Ontop of a lot of other changes of course.

Most people looking for server with new stuff like e45 e60 gears, so its hard to get player base with old school boi :( If you willing to fund the server from your pocket money, why not reopen oracle? Don't you still have the char data?

You can do the same for Woi too :)

If you'll make it like Evolution or Revolution server then go ahead. (never played it but heard good things about it)

Also, if you aren't going to say anything positive about this idea, don't even comment on the thread. I know he asked for your opinion but yours won't really help anyone since he clearly stated how he's not interested in making anything but the old BOI.

Some of us are waitin' for that for years. We had some of our best momments back then and it would be cool to feel the same way again.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see it open. So sick of all these servers that need pay to win, after getting so much money then they find some BS excuses to shut it down. For example, Infinity bs that GM doesn't have enough money left to pay the host, now Trinity's Gm haven't online for a month+ and most active players are leaving. I'm one of the idiots that donate so much then get pissed off and leave :D Can't help it since there is no good server out there. Love to see how this turn out.

Primarily because
1. Oracle was good, yes, but it was also customized so much that it would not work out well as a fresh server.
2. I'm not a fan of the expansion, it's on the edge of being overwhelming at times.
3. Oracle isn't oldschool, which is the whole point.



Another idea I had for this project (if it happens) is that anyone that is capable of editing the server files, would be allowed to submit customized/server changes. Now I say "submit" because it would then have to be "approved" by me and/or the community. And eventually merged into the main server.

That way you would have a workflow where the community are actually building the content together. (Git, for those that are familiar) It would also mean that the server's development is constant, and never on hold due to me getting too busy for a week or two.

BOI-WAR was the most fun I had in BOI ever, so if something like that comes out, I will definitely join and promote it to my friends !

good idea. a server like boi germany was woulda be great without donations.

Gosh i even miss msathena or gucci on pvps.

BOIW, BOIG and other pay-to-win servers were still more fun than these today. We hated it, we loved it, we had fun playing and you could actually feel success. They were rebirth of official.
Servers should be enjoyable on any level, you shouldn't just focus to max level gearing/pvping/boxing which is pointless and boring.

I did try almost this exact thing....but i know you know more about balance and servers than me so I will support this 100% and I am glad to see you showing interest in BoI again we missed you both in game and here on the forums
(i know you been around here and there but not like you use to be for sure)

If you need any assistance coding let me know I have too much free time and not enough to do.

I agree that we need a server where we can have fun while working for things like OC and such. I find zero fun in these servers around now because I can get everything in less than a week.

I also know a lot of people who tell me to just go play official or whatever but many people who have been here for a while left official not because of rates but because we can't afford to pay ungodly prices for very little reward.

That is what private servers use to be. A way for people who enjoyed the game but hated the prices to go and still experience the game without having so much restrictions simply because they couldn't dish out thousands of dollars to a game.

I am starting to rant....anyway to recap, I support this 100% and really hope it happens.

and what most people would consider reasonable prices for zen. BoI-war was a time when private servers weren't about get to max to pvp then quit game from boredom. It was more about enjoying the game as a whole and not having to give our souls and lives to PW who never bothers to properly convert zen prices from Yuan to USD. So we end up paying $100 for something that cost them 10-15 on there servers.
