I am trying to get one bot to work with a 512mb of RAM on a virtual machine, its so slow it wont detect the boxes.

You should buy a few more rams...i mean,they're cheap.
Beside that,you can't use bot in VM with these rams...At least,i don't think you can.Anyway,try installing win xp 64bit and place as much rams as you can (But be careful,not too much.I think you actualy have a limit,only half of your rams you can place...) and install WaterFox.It's the fastest browser for 64 bits (It's a FireFox browser modified).Maybe (Just maybe) like that you will be able to bot...

i5 with 8GB RAM

emulator settings:
2 proc with 3GB RAM, install W7 Home Basic x86
