[Guide] Creating an Ad Board Server

NOTE: This does nothing helpful, as far as I know. You cannot recieve fliers for made up items or buy them. I post this in the hopes someone will be creative and create something good out of this. It was still fun to do though :awesome:

This will be the goal:[Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]

Step 1:
You need a web server. I used WAMP (Google it). It is easy to set up and use, as long as you have a basic understanding of common sens- I mean computers.

Step 2:
Get the files to host. Download the file attached to this thread and put the contained folder in "C:\wamp\www" (or whatever your root directory is for your server)

Step 3:
Get rPE (its a sticky) if you don't have it and learn how to hook it on to the client. Now, in rPE, go to "Extras>Connect>Redirect Connection". In the Old IP box, put "63.251.217.217:80". In the New IP box, put "127.0.0.1:80". Press "Redirect"

Step 4:
Try going to an ad board. You should what have in the image at the top of the thread. If you don't, ask on this thread and I will try to help.

Step 5: Editing items
Go to "C:\wamp\www\MabinogiShopAdv\ShopAdvertise.asp " and open it up in notepad or any other editor. Looks familiar? Yeah, that's right! Its an XML file. The setting are pretty straight forward. Item ID's can be found in you client's itemdb.xml file.

Notes:
Sometimes, the redirect IP's thing can take a minute to take effect, I believe.

How it works:
The Mabinogi client would usually do this:

[Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]

This would search for a dagger. (On the Ruairi server) This page would search the database for it, and then redirect the client to a result page in form of a XML file. Yes, you can search the housing channel with your browser. The method of making your own server above skips the search steps and immediately gives the client our edited XML result file.

and... wat purpose does this serve?

None, but it is interesting. It gives a lot of insight on how the board works and was fun to do. I also put it up in case anyone could think of a way of expanding it or something, making it more useful.

Haha this is cool. Useless, but cool =D

Nice work ^.^

This can also be used to spoof reading the (owl) book, if modified, I think. Haven't tried yet, just saw your SS. I never checked a search Housing packet, but if its unencrypted and looks like the string that's in your SS, its similar to the read book string =P.

Doesn't matter anyways. Only works if you've completed the book. Darn.

Yeah, the books are just plain webpages too. I wonder what would happen if you caught the packet of a completed book and made a fake web page out of that and used it for a non-completed book? Oh, and requests the client sends to webpages are unencrypted.

Of course. Why do you think I bumped it? To show people about it that don't know how to

Quite entertaining to play around with.
