[Question] How Do They Shut You Down?

I heard/read about people getting shutdown. How is that possible? Like what? TQ sends you a message saying, if you don't shutdown we will sue you? Or TQ found out where you live my magically putting the ip in google and pint pointing your current location.

I need answers?
And I hope this is the right section, since its talking about Private Servers.

EDIT: hamachi why does everyone hate it? When it hides ur real ip and protects u even longer for them to track u down?

Is easy to find your adress.
They just use your ip.
Talk to your internetfirm(What ever it is named)
Then they ask for your adress.
Or something like that....

Yes use a proxy like Tor
but u can be still getting cought.

I know someone that can shut any server down right now. And if not shut down, he can sure as hell make it go up 1k ping+.

A good example is coemu.net.

Okay, all you guys are lie. This is what they do
- TQ presses Cntrl+Alt+Delete.
- TQ searches for the process -YourServerName-.exe.
- TQ clicks "end proccess".
- A warning error pops-up asking if TQ is sure.
- TQ chooses "Yes.".

and than TQ waits 5 seconds, and 'BOOM!' your .exe turns into a virus which makes your computer explode. You don't have to believe me, but I'm convinced that's true. Especially the "a virus which makes your computer explode." is true for sure! Be careful!

To avoid people requesting for an infraction: Keep in mind I just don't know any better. This is what my parents told me.

Because Hamachi does not hide your IP.
Because Hamachi increases your server's lagg and ping.
Because Hamachi-users will also have a worse connection.

It's not the least bit hard for tq to "track you down". If you have professional hosting they simply send an e-mail to the hosting company to shut you down. Very very VERY few professional hosting companies will argue with any large company (even one as pathetic as TQ). If you are hosting the server yourself chances are it will suck too much for tq to care (really, unless you have a 100 mbit connection in your house, tq won't give a shit about your "tens of players") but if they did they could just e-mail your service provider.

You can disguise your ip if you wanted but in the end, most of the service providers will still cut you off at the first tinny sniffle of a complaint.

Ok well you notice hamachi is in your network it is not hard to get your isp from hamachi just so you know and any way to hide Your IP is by IP Masking. Servs no point when your static ip is online hosting a server because its for web browsers and other java applets. Just a Fully Masked IP for The Ineternet Browsers such as FireFox Internet Explorer and other types of surfing tools. Your ISP can always be found over any long term connection most people can get your home phone number and street address just from linux alone although you can use IP Tracker like on mine below and find my house and the town im in if anyone cares to do that and post it im fine with it. just a Point you can ping or trace route anything connected to your PC. Well from my experiences, Tq tries to find out whether your using there binaries or not. They need actual proof, not an email from someone trying to ruin a server. Another way is selling in-game items since your attempting or are making money off their game. Donation is somewhat of a way around that. It's good to put a TOS for your server I think.
Nothing is really wrong with hamachi. But it's just kind of annoying for some cause the rooms are full and once a server has over 50+ or more people the hamachi will lag unless you have Hamachi Premium or whatever their premium service is called.

LOL yeah right what does he do ddos with a script kiddie botnet ? Oh noes!! If he can only raise ping by 1k then he is a noob anyways with some pretty lame bots lol and any "good" service provider with 100mb connection or higher has cisco routers with double ddoss protection and i would point and laugh at your friend supposedly threatening to shutting down my server he couldn't even raise the ping 50 if he tried.

TQ doesn't really care about your donations and they don't really care about your TOS/Disclaimer, Infact they don't even care what private server your running it can be custom made source or binarys it makes no difference.

I will tell you how they get ya and how they got everyone else and how to avoid it. And this isn't based on guesses this is FACTS based on my own experience.

It is really simple actually they get you for using copyrighted content to connect to any server. You cannot run a private server without offering players a download URL for a CO client period! It doesn't matter how much you edit there client or try and cover up autopatch and your own dll's by using wrappers or changing exe's ect ect every single file,ini,dds ect are copyrights of TQ digital SO enless your a programming guru and wrote your own client from scratch 100% your SOL and in breach of TQ's TOS and copyrights. They don't need to go on your server to find this out or even get to your stupid Disclaimer, And it doesn't matter if your client is coming from megaupload or any other free site away from your main hosting, the client is owned by TQ digital and you have no rights to modify it to connect to anyone elses servers other then TQ's.

This was how they tried to get me and many others i know of that got same letters in the mail from TQ lawyers. The only difference is they sent there cease and decist letter from there lawyers to my server provider and unlike most others that will fold and give out your personal info or shut you down my dedicated server hosting told them enless they got a court order and subpoena they could stick there letter where the sun don't shine. LOL which i found to be pretty funny when they called and told me about the situation and e-mailed me a copy of what they received.


How can you really save your server from TQ ??

If you look up all the people that got contacted by them they were all in the united states or countries that have copyright laws being upheld, So if you get hosting outside the US in a country that will laugh at anything TQ sends because there laws don't apply there is nothing they can do about it other then make empty threats.

So if your server is being run from egy/turk/EU ect hosting and i think even canada you really have nothing to worry about it is mainly the USA based servers/hosting they went after few mnths back because TQ headquarters is based in california here in the US. Nobody else i have talked to from other countries have ever had any problems and there servers have been up for years.

Also just a fyi TQ gets there lists from Xtremetop100 if you have your server listed there to gain votes/playerbase and your hosting abides by copyright laws from other countries your saved to a list for TQ to send out cease and decist orders at a later time.

That is where people are wrong and think TQ sues people they don't. They first send out cease and decist orders drafted by there lawyers tell you to immediately shut down your server. If you refuse to do so THEN they will threaten to sue. But everyone i know didn't take it that far and shut down after getting the first warning.

mhm there's more then 1 way to *crash* these binaried servers without dosing. anyways, you're totally right. but, i was thinking...what if your using an older co patch that doesn't need any modifications done to the client(conquer.exe/etc). and provide a official co client that hasn't been modified. then you give them the ip and let them figure out what to do from there. therefore you wouldn't be modifying the client in any shape or form. would you still be breaking there copyright?


as it would be the users decision to connect to an unauthorized server made entirely from scratch. therefore, the user would break the ToS of NetDragon, and the private server cannot do anything about that. as the user made the decision on their own and edited it themselves.
