Frostmage - PvP [ENG]

Here is my Lvl. 60 Mage Template, I majored in frost since most Magi are going to go fire. I did this because if most Magi are going fire then most peeps in PvP will have high fire resists, which would leave their frost resists low...


Arcane Talents (18 points)

Gives you a 100% chance to avoid interruption caused by damage while channeling Arcane Missiles. This is almost a must have as, although it does not raise the damage it causes it makes sure you do not get interrupted during casting.

Arcane Concentration - 5/5 points
Gives you a 10% chance of entering a Clearcasting state after any damage spell hits a target. The Clearcasting state reduces the mana cost of your next damage spell by 100%. This basically gives you a 10% bonus to your mana pool, no it does not "add" mana but it makes 10% of your spells "free of mana cost". This works wonders as you get a notice on screen when your next spell is free, as well as a sound also.

Improved Arcane Explosion - 5/5 points
Reduces the casting time of your Arcane Explosion by 1.5 seconds. This is a "dead weight" skill, "I needed to place points" so this is the only one that made sense.

Evocation - 1/1 point
While channeling this spell, your mana regeneration is active and increased by 1500%. Lasts 8 seconds. For those times when you can take an 8 second break in PvP and regen your mana bar.

Improved Counterspell - 2/2 points
Gives your Counterspell a 100% chance to silence the target for 4 seconds. This will be used mainly for stopping Magi AND stopping those damn huge priest heals. This is the skill I wanted, and the reason I dumped those 5 points in "Improved Arcane Explosion"


Frost Talents (33 points)

Increases the duration of your chill effects by 3 seconds. This is to eliminate the "running away" in PvP as well as some decent PvE uses.

Ice Shards - 5/5 points
Increases the critical strike damage bonus of your Frost spells by 100%. This is a MAIN skill if you are going frost, can get some really decent damage with a crit using "blizzard"

Improved Frost Nova - 2/2 points
Reduces the cooldown of your Frost Nova spell by (unknown time). This is the spell that "freezes" your opponent in place, I could not find info on the time of the second point, hopefully with 2 points it will give a 2-3 sec reduction.

Improved Blizzard - 3/3 points
Adds a chill effect to your Blizzard spell. This effect lowers the target's movement speed to a % normal. Lasts 8.50 seconds. Very important here!!! When you cast Blizzard in PvP(Blizzard is an AOE spell) The first thing people will do is try to run out of it, this slows them, thus taking more damage, since it takes them longer to leave the AOE spell. Notice that it lasts 8.5 secs while Blizzard only lasts 8 seconds this is awesome :)

Cold Snap - 1/1 point
When activated, this spell finishes the cooldown on all of your cold spells. Don't want to wait 5 minutes for another Ice Block or 2 minutes for Ice Barrier? Or maybe you need to cast Cone of Cold or Frost Nova twice? LOL, you cast Frost Nova and freeze someone, then they unroot themselves with a skill, you click Cold Snap, and freeze them again, man that's got too hurt...

Arctic Reach - 2/2 points
Increases the range of your Frostbolt spell and the radius of your Frost Nova and Cone of Cold spells by 20%. Another must have in PvP, expect the norm to be all classes maxing out the range of their skills or spells.

Frost Channeling - 3/3 points
Reduces the mana cost of your frost spells by 15%. A little helper here nothing major, but coupled with Arcane Concentration you now basically raised your mana pool by 25%. 10% is free with Arcane Concentration, and another 15% reduction here.

Shatter - 5/5 points
Increases the critical strike chance of your frost spells against frozen targets by 50%. Part of my group PvP plan: Frost Nova to freeze them, then Blizzard... with an increased chance by 50% of a crit and then adds 100% of a bonus to your damage with Ice shards this is a very nasty combination...

Ice Block - 1/1 point
You become encased in a block of ice, protecting you from all physical attacks and spells for 10 seconds, but during that time you cannot attack, move, or cast spells. An emergency "get off me and attack someone else" spell.

Frostbite - 5/5 points
Gives your chill effects a 15% chance to freeze the target for 5 seconds. This is part of the combo of "freezing and getting that 50% added chance to crit"

Ice Barrier - 1/1 point
Instantly shields you, absorbing 455 damage. Lasts 1 minute. While the shield holds, spells will not be interrupted. Use this when you run in the middle of the opposing team to Frost Nova them to set up your Blizzard... OUCH!!!

A note of interest here, this is a PvP group Mage, and although you would be effective at soloing, if you intend to "hard-core" solo as a lvl 60 Mage then I would spec for fire instead of Frost. This Mage as it stands now will be the "Battlegrounds Mage" when Bliz gets around to putting those in game.
