My personal advice to p-server developers

Because of the servere thundershitstorm on p-servers, I have thought on a piece of advice that should help to avoid immediate takedown.

1. Don't leave links on elitepvpers!
   Is possible that BP is checking the forum, for this reason, i would avoid to put links here.
2. Never use things like darkorbit.tv again
   Seems that all the now-dead servers were on darkorbit.tv. So it is possible that BP checked that list as well
3. Program CMS from scratch
   Don't use BP sources for swf or website. As all the servers died in days, is possible that BP has, toghether with DMCA.com (the guys who shut down DarkPlanets), a kind of automatic system.
4. Remeber: is always illegal.
   No matter if no profit, no matter if you edited something, no matter if you are Jesus (or, as I like to spell it, Geesoos). No matter if is just an experiment, or nothing.
   As you are using DarkOrbit images and such, you are still committing copyright infringement. Don't hope that law will help you, as law is just about having the best lawyers. And a company like BP surely is more powerful than a 16 years old guy
5. Other things
   Make people to download a little client, so they can host their little servers like you do in CounterStrike or similar, i mean closed ones. And if you want, of course, encrypt the code and compile it.
   Is much harder to take down a thing if people turn it off and on at need.

The first thing makes the (first statement of the) second part wrong. If you recode the swf and the game you basicly have a new game. Just change some pictures after that and bp can't do shit. But thats much work.

Programming just the cms from scratch (Number I in your post), may be a lot if BP uses an autocheck. If not, then is not enough, and you need to draw ships from scratch (Number II)
That is what I meant and, indeed, is a lot of work.

CounterStrike uses steam for for ranking, community ect.
a full client with the swf and basicly all other copyrighted stuff would be cool but players are always ***** and they would try to cheat. you would still need a service for anti-cheat/rankings .. But that wouldnt be illegal to host ;)

-> New backpage with no copyrighted stuff
-> all (c) data in the "pserver client"
-> emulator wich is able to handle this and avoid manipulated clients.

The computation of the filehash or size can be changed easily on the client side. So for example:
FileA -> SomeHash1
ModifiedFileA -> SomeHash2
Then part where all files get hashed:
if(file == ModifiedFileA){
return SomeHash1;
}
So the client will send a valid hash without a valid file.

I'm glad that the discussion is getting a positive direction. I hope there won't be noobs around with stoopid posts to ruin everything and start a flame war.

As soon as the server will become popular, some haters will report it to BP so you can do whatever you want, BP will catch you one day. The only thing to do is making a new game from scratch.

I'd love to help you out if there's room. As a community, if we all combined to work together. We can surely accomplish a complex task like remake the s.w.f's and such. Even if we can't, we'd still make a hell-a good server that we can always make super private, invite only and with strict monitoring or such things.
I hope to help you out mate, I'm sorry to hear about all of these servers going down, I'm scared to still develop mine right now. But, my website avoids to copyright infringement. The server side however, is a big task I must accomplish. I plan to make a custom page to embed the game s.w.f on. I hope to try and modify the s.w.f or something, but, it's okay if I can't. But, it's worth a shot to try and such :P

I'll put my to the side if I can come and work with you on yours or something. I've been known to be able to code very fast. Ask NoCheat. (: Me and him are the matrix of coders! :D Anyways, yeah.
