No its a version skip when they patch and will only work if they dont change things communication wise or add stuff that causes a crash if its missing.

As for window mode start the game with different paramaters for window mode. You can use process explorer to find the paramaters.

Yeah can also see the test servers by changing a 1 to a 2 or something.
