Basic-Tutorial: How to Add Border

I see many amazing work of avatar, signature etc, but, Many people don't add borders which makes avatar, signature etc looks like incomplete. I'm here for a "basic" tutorial how to add border in a few steps!
  • Open your image. (I'm taking a 140x140 White color for example!)
  • Click CTRL + A. (Select All)
  • Go Edit -> Stroke -> Width (your choice, I'd choose 1) -> Color (Black) -> Location (Inside!) -> OK
  • Click CRTL + D. (Deselect All)

You can't because it's a Background ;) Doubleclick it (at the right where you see the layername) or rightclick it and choose an option like "create normal layer" or something. Don't know how it's called exactly. Doubleclick is easier.
If you do this, you can use the stroke effect.
