A few questions

Hey all,

I've been a long time member of this board and was hacking way back when USA worked. I quit after expedition because I couldn't hack anymore and school. I recently came back, and was a bit overwhelmed by the Cheat Engine and Winhex tutorials (I can't seem to find many in proper english), but the CRC bypass seemed familiar to me. So I got the CRC working, and as far as I understand there are three ways to hack
1. Cheat Engine
2. CRC bypass and .csv edit
3. Winhex pack editing

So I have a question. Which allows for more versatility? For example, with the CRC bypass, I have oread spawn, but I crash much too often. Do those of you who use Cheat Engine or Winhex crash often or no? Also, the start up time is killing me. I hate waiting 5 minutes for the game to start only to have it crash. So my question is, which do you think is the best way to hack this game? I'm not very savvy on hacking, so I would need TuTs, and ive looked at many. I originally tried CE, but failed to get wallhacks working, and I don't know how to save my memory edits (Sad, i know). I am a bit familiar with WinHex (i've used it a little before), but I dont know if this will really help at all. Finally, before I quit, I was able to get to Space of Pilgrimage using the USA. Do you guys remember this? I've read many posts saying its impossible, but i've seen hints at it here and there. I'm not asking if you can give it to me, but is it possible with CRC bypass? If not, possible with CE or WinHex? If so, I would definitely switch. However, I don't want to lose my current abilities to get to Tomb and have oread spawn, so are there any TuTs for CE or WinHex?

Thanks

I'm personally in favor of CE. I haven't run into anything that I've needed so far that I haven't been able to get to work with CE, and it offers the ability to turn it off in emergencies (within reason, vaccing usually doesn't listen unless you change location drastically.)

I can explain/link you to tuts to you to get some of the basics working in Cheat Engine if you end up going that route. It also doesn't seem to crash on me all too often. (The only crashes I've gotten were when I do stupid things. Like accidentally keep the Vac on within dungeons, or when I decide to get a train of around 99 mobs... My crap graphics card can't keep up with that. Happens more often than I'd like to admit. x.x )

Heh, I know what you mean about the mobs, but the funny thing is I can lure around 99 and have no lag, but with oread it just crashes like that. It's a strange thing

Anyway, I think I am going to go the CE way. I met someone today who had a skillhack using CE, and that's something I would like to have. Im going to make backups of all the edited .csv's just in case, but the basics of CE would be greatly appreciated. I've already taken a look at the huge list of hacks, but I don't know if the scripts need to be changed or what. Thanks a bunch i really appreciate it ;)

Most of the ones posted within the last couple months still work, I've personally gotten some of mine changed to meet my style of play.

As for the basics of it, I can explain how to get some specific bare-bones-basic hacks, and how to get maphacks to work, but my skills end about there. I only know my hacks because a friend and I play together, and he's a fekkin' genius when it comes to this and explaining. I'd be completely screwed if left to my own devices in regards to hacking.

(Hours on vent of me going. "Errr... I think I broke itt.... the screen isn't supposed to turn red and start shaking, is it?" or things of that sort from me buggering it up ... lawl.)

Yeah the ones I am confused about are the maphack, Monster spawn, and map change (from python to Tomb). I don't really know what or how to edit it....

Well, map hack is my favorite because... it's really damned easy once you figure it out.

For starters, here's a little chart that helps get situated and sucho:

This thread can help you, although I personally do it slightly different. Still, the block of text with the map names and numbers is a godsend. Save that in a text file somewhere, and leave a thanks for 'em. ;P

Now this is the method I use, it seems to work well. It's a kinda dumbed-down route, since I'm... well... a fool.

Open CE (get it going, attach the processes, open whatever hacks you need), at the top near the search bar change 'value type' to 'array of bytes', paste in the numbers provided in that thread that correspond with what zone you are aiming for, and search.
On the left-hand side, click the bottom-most number listed there (the amount of items listed can change, I typically just go with the one at the bottom.) and click the red arrow next to that box.

Now that it's in the area below, right-click on it, go to Change Record > Type. Change it to Text.

Now right click again, Change Record > Value. type in web_image.mac , say yes to the two items that open after that, and VOILA.

(Note- there is no need to freeze it. It works as soon as you change the name.)

For vaccing and whatnot, look here:

Very nice, thorough tutorial on all things CheatEngine-y.

i personally feel like winhex gives you the most freedom, but CE is definitely easier. Whether you do CSV or not just depends on what you like to do

Aye, it all comes down to the ebb and flow that fits your needs and style.

(Hence why I use CE. It's relatively dumb-little-girl-proof.

... relatively.)

try reading the tuts and doing what they say, which includes having the correct tools...
