Your mysql Version is to low for the file your trying to use. But it looks like it is acting like it is not getting a connection to the db. What's your configuration file look like?

It's not connecting because of you php version, also I wouldn't use those commands, I'd stick with a PDO object for MySQL.

Im using mysql through xampp, i deleted the mysql folder out ofxammp , and placed the mysql folder from the DB into the xampp folder , so i dont understand. also the website im trying to use is the haunted website release on here.

your php version is to high
you need to use a older php version to be able to connect ( php 5.4 works )
if you want a good php version use my release ( easy website )

was based on elite4demons (with recapcha ) and was made before i made my own site ( [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] is the script if you want my site xD )
it goes about the php version, not about the site that is in it
also i can not read the other errors xD
just replace the files in w:/www/ and it will be fine

just extract the files
the files will look something like below (to lazy to check )
upload the file to your webserver ( or in the www folder on Xamp/easy website )
go to yoursite.com and it will ask you to install if not installed
so it should be ready in 3 clicks , fill in the right information and done (no need to hassle with sql , its a install file xD )
that is all you need to do
be sure it is as root
or else it provide a lot of errors ( exept if you can edit , files are opensource)

all those files need to be in the folder
nothing more to do to it :S
so place that zip folder in the /www folder
extract the folder and go to localhost
that is all that need to be done xD

if i check my own config file then i do not have that error
but it was something with the $valid=2; ( line 232 or so )
just move it from there in the /settings/config.php file at the bothom and the error should be fixed
after checking the file i can not see where nothing is closed or where a ; is missing
can you try that ?
else it is a bit more work to get rid of the $valid function as it is my serial check system
