Application - CO2 Programming/PServer section

01/28/2014 15:00 KraHen#1
EDIT : Of course, the application applies to the CO2 section as a whole.

Age : 20

I have been an active member of the given scene for a reasonable amount of time, through the ups and downs, this is the section where I started to learn programming and these are the people which I can thank for my career in computer science. As you can see, I pretty much owe this community a lot, and spend time in the section every day, so I would like to help them/us in this way as well. What I really like about this part of the forum is the encouragement of newbies to learn new things by giving them indications instead of spoon feeding information, and this is how I`d like to see this handled in the future as well.

As far as moderating experience goes, I have lead a few teams, managing projects and collaborating closely with lots of coworkers for the last year, be that online or in person. After enrolling in a few management and teambuilding courses I learned how to keep things at peace and preserve a good environment among people, and also have used these in practice with success. Currently I work as a game developer at an AAA studio, which requires massive moderation in daily idea exchanges.

So, if you can, help me to help my friends. :)

The only problem he has, is that he hasn't used the set format.

You can also deny this form and write an ad-lib application (a text of your own), we still need the information above though.
Everything is included.

Acctually my point was that Fang´s rather alone on a huge section. He keeps up pretty niceley but the section gets spammed with bullshit on regular bases.

Krahen knows how to code, has deep knowledge in co2/development, I wouldnt mind another Mod to infract me regulary.

Why not? He has the knowledge, has the maturity and never seen him join a fight over the boards or even troll or dunno, do stupid stuff but he kept his mouth and only spoke when it was needed to. So what if he didn't wrote that application "by the book". We need people that are open-minded and not enslaved by something that isn't even physical (some words in a thread). Vouch for him, he'll make a good job and at least, let him try, make him a trial mod for like a month and after check the results, feedback or what ever and make your mind.

Not to be an ass but Fang got his mod after numerously fights over the forum, trolling, ragequitting, rants, insults, arrogance, ignorance and the list can continue. Now he's acting like he should and he deserves the mod position so why the hell this chill guy can't get a shot at it?

While it is true what you said about Fang, let`s not forget how great was the change we all seen him make, and he became one of the most valuable members of the community.

Thanks for the support, though. :)

Hi KraHen,

I'm sorry, but please allow me to clarify a few mistakes in the comments above before I address your application. I should probably start with the activity in the Conquer Online section: it's incredibly small. It's not a "huge section" and it's definitely not spammed on a regular basis. I usually only have to clean up spam once or twice a week, and enforce the rules 4-5 times a week. There really isn't much to do. If you were to become a moderator, it wouldn't be as bad as some members above have stated. It's a calm section.

Now, regarding your application - you know your stuff. I feel like you know enough to be a great member, but I'm really unsure about your ability to moderate. You seem like a really relaxed person, and I do believe you'd be able to communicate well with members, but you either have never made a report in your 8 years on elitepvpers, or haven't since the new report system was implemented in 2007. That and your lack of prior experience is really concerning to me, and it will be to the staff as well - so that's a big problem that I see with your application at this time.

Reporting is very important because it allows the staff to see what your really know about the rules in the section. No reports = no records, and that's really bad. People who report a lot usually get the moderating position without the Guardian stepping stone. The problem is that you have no reports, so it might be best that you go for the Guardian position first (like Arco did back in the day). Once I see you actively reporting, I wouldn't mind recommending you for a Guardian position in the section. Then, you could apply again for a moderating position.

Anyways, that's my opinion about the situation, from my understanding on how these applications are processed. Currently, I would not recommend you for a moderating position. I hope to see that change though. Good luck.

Kind Regards,
Spirited

PS: My apologies, but I almost forgot the second clarification. If you would like to moderate for the Conquer Online section, it would have to be all of the Conquer Online sections, not just the private sever and programming section. I can ask the staff, but usually if no exceptions have ever been made and it's not a problem with our rules/moderating, there probably will never be exceptions made just for one member. Again, I could ask for you if you'd like, but for now, keep that in mind; if you want to moderate for the section, it would have to be the entire section. Cheers.

Thanks for the feedback. :) Yeah, now that you put it like this, I can see how this can be a problem.

Anyways, disregarding this, which I don`t seem to see as a really huge problem, my application still stays open indefinitely. :)

Absolutely. It's still worth keeping your application open for feedback from the members. Again, I wish you the best of luck - just work on those reports and that guardian position! :p
