Ya'll whine bout pay2win

Remove literally everything from item mall besides avatars.
Those reverses give advantage at server start for people that charge silk , same with grabpets as you dont have to pick shit by yourself , if the only thing you could buy in item mall was avatars it would barely end up in a pay2win, also make the prices of it higher , not too much but so you'd still keep getting enough money for server and its issues.
It would be something like LoL for example , you can mostly buy just skins here , no extra potions or inventory slots , no reverses , just a better look in game.

P.S This idea is not for people that want to pull out a ton of money from the server ,its for those that want to satisfy whole server , and cap is your decision ofcourse.
Thoughts?

LOL's kind of bussiness works for 3 reasons:
1. Their playerbase is huge, creating a big amount of users that will for sure purchase at least one skin, making the business profitable.
2. They design and release new skins every week, sometimes more than one, creating always a "need" for purchase an skin for your favourite champion.
3. Every champion has its own personality, players feel connected with them and doesn't mind paying 10$ or more for a visual change for its champion.

On Silkroad this model wont work. We don't have a decent model editor (perry ones is a nice workaround but its missing many stuff), neither the tools nor the monopoly to invest resources on designing new avatars or pets (if a server decides to spend most of their resources on that, other pservers will just steal their designs in 0 seconds and profit of those at cost 0). Plus on MMORPG's like Silkroad there is no real bound to your character. This means, every char in theory have his own "background story" (you can read it when creating the char), but there is no voice nor effect in the game of the character, which makes it only differents in their visual appareance (which you can change with an skin scroll).

In resume. It won't work, the system LOL uses is good for MOBAs, but not for MMORPGs, the point of MMOs is progression, if you give items for money that speeds up the progression or makes it less annoying (pickup pets), players will pay for it without affecting too much the balance of the game between free and non-free users.

10/10 would read again.
Ontopic : You got a point , sad no one else can understand that and keeps whining about pay2win and balance for each cap.

Silkroad was made to make money, every mmorpg is more supportive to people who charge for a advantage over other regular player, that's how mmorpgs are made, same thing goes for our private servers, people that don't donate have less chances to be good than donater, i personaly think that pay2win(i mean dmg-def scrolls and other stuff) is not so bad as long as you don't sell ingame weapons and gear.
about scrolls and other stuff, i don't mind that :)

It's not "I couldn't say better" it's "I couldn't think better" =)

Possible to do, not hard if you steal models from other games but costs a shitton if you want to hire modelers/artists(textures).

About pay2win? Its easy as shit to fix, we've done it numerous times in the past, I guess the trick here is that you have to have an actual brain for it. lol.

Silkroad has always been about pay2win no matter how you change or want to see it, anything that requires equipment and levels; everyone who pays automatically gets an advantage.

The reason people open a server is about money, thats the point. So far I just saw only 1 server that was play2win, it was a caprising server don't know if it still exist, you couldnt donate there

Well let's be realistic, no saint person would want to spend $500/month for nothing right? I don't know if you ever had the chance to manage a server's costs, but the profit is not as much as you would think, but this is the case of average servers, also at the same time, the bigger the server is the costs get higher, considering possible chargebacks from time to time, all you invest at the start will most likely not pay out as you would hope.

I voice my opinion based on past experience of managing this stuff, so I may not know how it is everywhere.

Well, first of all, if server opens, owner must look at the side of getting money, not to get profit, but to pay the host and protection, because if he won't get money, server will die.
Furthermore, I chuckle when I see someone yelling at me "Your server is pay2win, it is, nobody play here, bb", and TOP3 players in the server didn't ever donate.
It's not about removing reverses, grab pets and other stuff you think is giving an advantage. It's about giving an opportunity to get this stuff for a casual player, but not making it as an easy opportunity, but a challenge, like a quest.

Time invested is also worth some money.
Thing is the mentality of most private server players is this: getting strong since they missed the boat in isro, reason they tend to whine quick about donations on private servers.

Time invested is worth money? Don't play games at all then, you're losing money! :awesome:

Talking about server owners, they invested time setting things up, making them work and running 24/7 for all of you, reason that "time" investment is worth money.
i personally don`t care about what players do, as long they are enjoying themselves and have a perfect running server fairly sure they would agree on the statement of donating to server owner.

It's good to be altruist and so... when you are 16 years old. Most of the things I've done were for fun or just altruism, doesn't matter how long or effort it took me, but with pservers and age this changed.
Open a server just for "fun" will lead the server to the ruin, no one does that and who does it has his server closed within a week. I do many things on my server that makes it fun and interesting work to do, but most part of the work I do on it is boring and is stuff that I did 99999 times already, which makes it not-enjoyable at all, and spent many nights working doing that. That time is not free, is worth money, and getting paid for it, even if its not enough for have a living, is not being greedy, is being realistic (electricity, food, those things only pay themselves when you live with your parents).

Don't compare playing games with work on a server, because they are not even comparable, and you are being disrespectful with everyone who works on this (including yourself).
