Tagging users in a post

Hey guys, I've noticed that in the shout-box you have the ability to tag users in a shout. So, why not implement this system into posts? You could also get notified (just like a PM) when someone quotes/tags you. On my phone app (tapatalk) I get a notification everytime someone quotes my post, and It's really useful when you're involved in a big discussion, and having to check the thread again and again until someone replies is pretty repetitive, I'd rather have a notification telling me that someone had quoted/tagged me in a post, it would be much easier.

An example could be "When will we get a winter update / snowy elitepvpers @John Dread?" then, he'll get a notification showing that someone has tagged his name in a post, and if you click it, it'll lead you to the thread.

So, what's your opinion?

Hello Creationist,
I´ve already sent that suggestion to Muddy Waters. It isn't possible because of perfomance reasons. Every User-Tag needs a Database Query.

Greetings,
Kentika

Hey Kentika,

Oh, that's a shame :( is there no other way around this?

unfortunately not. You need the database, to find that user and his informations means without database, no users and therefore no information of the user.

Alright, thanks for the clarification. I'll keep this open anyway to see users ideas, and hopefully the admins post, so we can get their opinions too. Thanks Kentika :)

This is the suggestion section, not the complaint area

So what? Am I not allowed to criticise your suggestion?
Apparently you accept unsubstantial 'yes' posts, but consider the same posts containing a 'no' instead of a 'yes' as 'complaints', I'll give you a quick reason why your idea has huge, huge, HUGE flaws you probably didn't think about before making yet another suggestion to this website.

These kinds of plugins for vBulletin (auto tag users, convert specific words into URLs, etc.) causes some tasty performance loss. As we all know, elitepvpers is fussy about their server(s) and the general performance of their website. The benefits to your suggested feature are close to zero (actual benefits), so it's probably not worth the millions of additional database entries.

Also people who are using special characters can not be tagged easily. Actually, it's easier to copy the URL of their profile and paste it into my post rather than trying to spell some crazy mix of special characters like ™ in order to tell the system what user I'm even talking about. Also, if you spell my name, you will never find my profile, but some zero-poster who registered before I did. Zero-width space, google it. Many people use it.

So kids, what did we learn today? Walking around with your eyes closed will make you run into a wall way quicker than you'd expect.

I didn't say you couldn't criticize my suggestion, I was wondering why you didn't post anything useful aside from "elitepvpers isn't Facebook". And yes, I don't reply to 'no' comments. You know why? Because forums have the tendency to start a discussion when faced with different opinions. They will then continue to express their feelings towards the good + the bad of the suggestion, which then let's the staff decide based upon that.

Assuming that this is your logic when reading suggestion threads, you expect all users to be highly experienced in vB, and know the ins & outs from it and know whether it'll work or not? You could've easily posted your opinion without the sarcastic comments, but obviously you chose not to.

Uhm what?
That's a feature of Cholik's extended shoutbox. Afaik the sb does not support that natively.

I think that this is a great idea
