Save yourselves the headache, just install deflate. It manages its own frequency so it can automatically ban people who attack your server for 600 seconds at a time (changeable). Most web servers you buy come pre-loaded with this already configured. As the rest of the topic is just "hear-say" so its your choice to take it to heart or not. LastChaos has bigger issues than DDoS which doesn't happen literally at all on any servers. DDoS is a noobs attack and has been for many years (literally anyone here can do it).

There are bigger issues to tackle for server owners like for example keeping hackers at bay. I will be releasing a new hack into the wild potentially in the coming months that will work out of the box on every private server in existence. Without anticheat any private server is a lost cause, and I personally know is more critical than protecting the server from minor DDoS attacks.

Take it from me Tefarian doesn't even know that DDoS works at a hardware level (software cannot stop it). So take this copy + paste guide with a grain of salt as it's far from the "ultimate fix". It's actually pointless unless you want to mitigate TCP attacks. In which deflate works the best. There are bigger issues like real security out there than something like this.

If you're a server owner you don't need to worry about this. If you do, just install deflate and be done with it. At least then no one will be able to exhaust your servers resources. If you're worried about real DDoS (no server should be) than just contact your host provider and order a Cisco Firewall. They will set you up with bandwidth packages based on price. Capable of mitigating a specific amount of unwanted bandwidth based on price.

Tho again, there aren't any hackers among the LastChaos community. I think I myself am the only known hacker (who did any real hacking). And I don't even bother with LastChaos anymore. So you can take security itself with a grain of salt, I doubt anyone is going to even notice. Tho its something you should have regardless (best practice).

How to install deflate.
Code:
wget http://www.inetbase.com/scripts/ddos/install.sh
chmod 0700 install.sh
./install.sh
How to uninstall deflate.
Code:
wget http://www.inetbase.com/scripts/ddos/uninstall.ddos
chmod 0700 uninstall.ddos
./uninstall.ddos
It's as simple as that, its more "noob friendly" as well and more effective than messing with iptables by hand.
