10/03/2013 10:10 jlhaehl#1
Hello im planning on hosting a private server like so many other but mine will probably end up private for friends and family anyway.i have a dell 6650 with 4x 3.0ghz xeon processors 16gig installed ram 4x 10k rpm hdd's 6x cooling fans and redundant power supplies. Also installed Windows server 2008 enterprise.... is this sufficient for private server? What would be an ideal internet connection speed ( within reason) thanks

it depends your internet speed

The hardware is enough.
But you need a really fast internet connection, that the client connection is stable for much players.

My recommendation is to have a very FAST internet connection.

- Don't try to run the server on a 30mbps download and 2.5mbps upload speed. (Unless, you want only a small amount of people such as 5-10 to play at once)

- Try running server with a V.P.S that offers you 50+mbps download and a good upload speed thats about or above 10mbps. (That way, more players can play on your private server with minimum lags. ^^)

- If you want alot of players to connect to your private server for public use for E*PvP, then you will need a dedicated V.P.S server with sufficient speed to run your private server. (Note, a V.P.S does cost a bit of money. ^^)

- Hardware is good, but like Requi said, "you need a really fast internet connection so that each "player" can connect to your server". ^^".

Hope I helped. :)

If he wants only friends and family to play on it, then a good internet speed about 15mbps download and 1.1mbps upload is good. ^^

Sorry, I didn't really read the thread too well so dumb me on my side. :P

For only friends and family depends on the amount of people. If only about 5-10 then run off of your computer with your standard internet speed. ^^"

More people about 20-30 requires more internet speed but for just friends and family you can use your standard internet speed. xD

Also, please take a speed test using: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] to check your internet speed. ^^ Then reply to the thread with your internet download and upload speed. ^^ Hope I helped. ;)

What about.50000 kbps / 15000 kbps Is sufficient?

Not enough. Fairly not enough. You need something like 1Gps as I know.
Just buy a Root Server (not cheap)

Buy a root server? Dedicated or vps? How what is a root server?
10/03/2013 16:23 Requi#10

Requi, mind telling me the answer to this question?

How much does a "root" server cost a month, in usd? A year? And what are the requirements to config the root server to run the emulator for the private server?

Just curious is all! ^^

Yeah OVH is the best, but they no more make 16GB Server, it's the old generation ..''Kimsufi"

They changed their prices ..

Now for having a I5, 32GB, GigaEthernet = 80 $ In OVH Canada, so appr = 56 Euros.
Without the Windows License who will cost you 20 E each month.

After that .. Small server from Kimsufi and from OVH France are all Sold out ..
