Parent with pet?

I wonder, does it actually help to pupil a master with a pet, to get a pet yourself? I know people say this to try and get pupils for their brute, but maybe there is some truth to it, that it gives a slightly higher chance?

Or is it just random, or maybe has to do with the hash of the name?

A while back, I made over 100 pupils without a master (just at mybrute.com) and got no pets. And today I made 26 pupils on a guy with a wolf, and I got 3 interesting ones:
- one will have a bear at lvl 8
- flail+strong arm+sabotage
- wolf at level 1!

every brute will get pets. Some just get them earlier, some just at lvl 150+

That's not true - unless you are talking about dogs, which are a dime a dozen anyway. I have a brute who won't have a bear/panther even at level 1000.
