[Discussion] Windows 8.1 and sro?

Hello

Since Microsoft's developers are so idiots. to develop a new version from windows 8 while win8 did not pass 2 years till now, I was excited to see the new version's functions and change log. but unfortunately, while testing the game performance on such mmorpg games like silkroad online and path of exile.. both did not work what so ever! the client loads and turns off instantly.. while I installed windows 7 back and the client works as well. Did someone test this crap version? or at least knows why dafuq is this happening?

New OSs are not to try with games, wait atleast 6 months till they update it.

windows 8 = windows 8.1

if it works on 8 it will work on 8.1

they only changed the gui and added some patches

Dunno, xtrap version was not working on windows 8 saying that it's not less version than xp. probably poorly coded. and yeah, I tested crossfire on 8.1 1 hour ago and it gave me the same fucking error on windows 8. "Xtrap developers fixed win 8 error btw"

Yeah also it's a developer-test version. Not an official one.

There's no 'if' in such situations like this. you have to test by yourself, I tested it and I know that it does not work.

Why would you use win8.1 if win7 is working fine? Newer doesnt mean better, I didnt change from XP to Win7 until 2010~2011.

Windows 8.1? Why would you get that if you're using Windows 7 or 8? It uses HDD space that you can use for useful things.

Anyway, like Nezekan said, they didn't change anything to the NT kernel or DirectX runtime. If it works on Windows 8, it will therefore also work on Windows 8.1 unless you did something wrong.

Also i'm still using winXP and its smooth, but i will change to win7 soon.Altho I have heard that 3rd party programs are not entirely supported by win 8(for sro).

Windows XP is way too old now to be used as your primary os, directx version is too old, xp doesn't know wtf an ssd is and it will not get any security patches anymore. Windows 7 runs most of the older applications too, I'm using windows 8 myself as it has incredible startup times (~3-5 seconds)

I suggest to format windows 8 and get windows 7.
If you really want good os get linux instead of windows 8 :)

Why? What's wrong with Windows 8? It's faster and compatible with (most) Windows 7 applications.

I know it's kinda crappy, but for now I have to deal with it.I plan on buying a whole new computer and getting win7 x64 on it then it should be fine. Also I know about microsoft stopping to create updates for winXP.

What's wrong?
The gui!(given that you're using a desktop PC w/o a touchscreen)
