You can use the Lan thing if your on the same IP.

If Not, you can open just a server, and play together with Hamachi.

You can open your own Server this way (everyone who knows your ip can join):

1.) Download the multiplayer-server .exe (if you are running on windows) from [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] (put it into a folder and doubleclick it)

2.) Open the port 25565 on your firewall (i cant tell you how you can do that because it differs from firewall to firewall). Just google it.

3.) Tell your friends your IP ([Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...])

Still questions? Add me on Skype (phlinther1) and I can give you further advice.

This only work in your Home Network. This does not work in Public. If your klick on Singleplayer "Open to LAN", it Says in Chat something like Local game hosted on Port xxxxx. This port has to be added to your Firewall and if you want it to be accessable in Public use Hamachi, no-ip or your IP for the last two points you have to make the Port known in your Router. For Public I recommence to take a "real" server which doesn't change its port on restart.

Try searching for a tutorial how to make a no-ip minecraft server. There are lots on Youtube.

It does work in public. This way you set up your own, "real" server (like if you'd rent a "real" server). The problem is just that your IP may change everytime you restart your router (if you have a dynamic IP adress). I did'nt describe the "Open to LAN"-option, but i guess he wants his friends who are somewhere else (and are not connected to his LAN) to be able to play with him. So setting up a server is the only option. YOu can do it via Hamachi too, but I don't like Hamachi (this way you don't need to open your port).

No but you have to Register the Port of a Server if it runs on a Home Serverto the router unless the router hasn't got a firewall which would be very unsafe
