What version to choose for a source using C# ?

Hello,

I'm wondering on what version a private server would be more appreciated, I'm asking because i'm making my own source using C#, but i don't know what version i should choose and i always change my mind haha.
Then please vote on the poll i linked below and comment here why you voted for any version.
The comments will help me to make me an opinion about the version.

If this is your first time making a source for Conquer Online, I would strongly suggest working with a lower patch version that has been well documented. From there, you can always improve the server, change packet structures, and change cipher algorithms to change the version of your server. The most documented version with the least amount of work in cipher algorithms and security (which you won't want to deal with on your first attempt) would be patch 5017. If you'd like to start with a lower patch, I'd recommend getting 5017 working first, then moving to a lower patch by changing the packet structures. The lower versions are always well appreciated, but any version is acceptable. Focus on gameplay, and your player base will follow. Good luck!

Depends on what features you want and please search the forum since these threads are made all the time.

^^^^

It all depends on what you want your server to be.

If you want classic then go to the oldest patch that still has features you want to use
If you want current then go newest patch of live

If you want feature X then just emulate the client version that has the features you want.

Personally I'm a pretty big fan of 5065 because it has all of the core things that people might want to use while still having the classic feel but I suppose having worked on it recently makes me a touch biased.

I recommend 5017 as someone else already said it contains a decent amount of documentation for you to know what does what and how it works.

I was personally going to do 5017 but the links for the 'good' references and such aren't working so I decided to give it a go with patch 5069.

Which links aren't working? I might be able to fix them. Have you checked my popular source downloads thread yet? If so, just leave a comment on there telling me what links need updating. I'm sure other members would appreciate it as well. :)

Write your own source then, there is more than enough documentation for it when it comes to patch 5017.
