It's just an unknown bug. Try to ask those players for it :)

There was a bug year ago,you get the reward when you just jumped in to the gate. I actually get beta and gamma gate that way. So it didn't matter which wave you were at, you just get the reward. The bug was fixed very fast. So you can't get times like these anymore :)
