Hi elitepvpers. 4Story server can do make in Linux system? If so, you can help with the programs, or some advice?

Hmmm, my friend thinks that 4s server was build for linux first, I don't think so, because it's all vc++ project files.
If you wants to try it, you'll need an emulator, called Wine (google it!)
I think it's not possible but worth a try.
Or just buy windows dedi which is more expensive than linux based others :D

You are right, ther isn't any hint to think so. If you look at the sourcecode more precise you will see it is disigned for using Microsoft's Apis

Wine Is Not an Emulator!

The question is I can mount the server in host who use Linux system?

Basically WINE is emulator, emulating what Windows do. I don't care about the name
WINdowsEmulator.

the name wine stands for

WineIsNoEmulator :)(google it)
But so far I know wine is like a sandbox( so you can't connect on a db)
and it is not programmed for programs witch need much ressources
you could try linux and a VM with windows

No, it isn't a emulator. The only thing Wine does i s redirecting calls to Microsoft's Apis to the current system one's. So if your windows program creates a window, these informations are redirected to for example the x window system on some linux distributions.

This should definitely work, but the server needs enough power to run a vm.

Okey

BT: I think the best way is to get a Windows server
04/16/2013 17:42 glossypvp#11
And why?
Use Windows instead and no problem. I know linux dedis are much cheaper, maybe it's worth to try with linux + vm but I swear only offshore provides will allow to use cracked windows on that ... hmm then run a 4s server? .. :D To run a 4S server isn't such an allowed thing at most providers but noone care

Windows Server 2008 R2 or 2012, goes fine =) Linux will have you much problems..

Linux is more stable than Windows!
The problem with it is simply only that 4S is built for Windows.
With Windows Server 2008 R2 I always had a problem with it, cuz it's for 64 bit only.
And I don't wanna use newer versions like 2012, because why?
The best choose is Windows Server 2003, simple, stable, including everything what you need for a 4S server.
