Wine is your only chance as far as I've had experience.

Game Guard will not be your problem. Most of the private servers remove the game guard function.

The things you will run into are all the products that are dependent on Windows.

DirectX, The Microsoft SQL Server. The Game server, Auth, and Upload may be the easiest to run in WINE but they will still need to connect to the SQL environment.

You would need to try and run the entire setup inside of WINE.

It may be easier to start small and see if you can connect to a private server that is already operational by running their provided client in WINE.

As a Linux Enthusiast (I have a great disdain for windows) I say this to you:

I was actually WineAPP Database contributor, I was trying to get Rappelz to work on it's own merit. (Without VM), even without gg (possible using a PH sframe) I could only get the game to start to lobby, but after login things go sour.

Rappelz uses Internet Explorer ActiveX for several in-game functions/protocols. The problem with this is (at-least when I was working on it) Linux doesn't support ActiveX (even via wine to my knowledge) and thusly wine debug spits a large slew of errors right after you press login.

In my opinion, it's just not worth it to run a Rappelz client on Linux.
