Alienware Order

Hey guys, I want to order my first Alienware gaming laptop (I will also need it for rendering), but as I know dekstop PCs are far more better than laptops, but in which way, I mean compare a Desktop PC and a laptop with the same specs, what are the differences?

The laptop is: Alienware M17x Full HD 3D Gaming Laptop Details | Dell

Any comments & thoughts about it?

*The 3rd one, with full HD and 8GB of ram.

Alienware products are completely overprized.

But other than that the main difference between a PC and a laptop is, that the PC has more power per money you put into it. Also many laptops especially the ones for gaming have issues with overheating because you literally have no space for an efficient cooling solution.

Yeah, I've heard about it, the biggest problem would be the overheating thing, it can't be that such a laptop has a normal cooling system, it would burn my house down just in the windows starting up process ._.

You're better off with a notebook from another company. Dell/Alienware is known for high prices. There are good high-end notebook from other manufacturers as well. My friend just bought one from XMG (mysn.com), including a GTX 675M and of course Full-HD, 750 GB HDD (7200 rpm), i7 3630QM and more for about 1200€. Just tell us how much your limit is, and what you want to do with it. Of course you could also buy a desktop PC, it would be much better regarding the cost/perfomance ratio. But in the end it's your choice.

I'm traveling a lot, so I need a portable device, I'm not limited with money I just want a good laptop, the first thoughts were focused on alienware, I know they are pretty expensive but they are offering also a good quality for that money. I'm video editing a lot of stuff so I'll need the i7 (hyper-threading) for a fast rendering, and also a good video card for games.
