It's surprising that all they did was temporarily ban your account. I've (without intending it) brought down the character server as well when performing certain actions, yet I still have to figure out which action I particularly did made this happen.
As far as banning goes, my whole ISP range has been banned from the game, and possibly geographic location as well.
But of course that won't stop me from getting in the game. And it's not very smart to admit this in public as the game masters are very ban happy lately, even to certain extend that a lot of innocent people are getting their accounts banned.
