Every item in the itemtype.dat has two entries. The first one will be close to the top of the file the second will be further down. In this example I will use the normal BlueCrestHelmet

Step 1 would be to find the id of the helmet and search the itemtype.dat starting at the first line. In this example it is 111000 which in hex is 1b198 which then you have to reverse the numbers so it turns out to be 98 b1 01

So do a search for 98 b1 01 and you will find the entry as in the following image.

Now you will want to change that id to the one you want. Next you will want to find the first id 98 b1 01 again and you should find it a little further down, example is in the next image.

Once you find the second entry, change that to match the new id you created for the first entry. Then save the itemtype.dat and your done.

well listen the best way is getting an empty itemtype with 1 item mod it to how ever u want with itemtype editor then with hex editor copy the hex digits and place it as the last item on your itemtype.. but however this is perfect for items only but eggs and other stuff might get screwed with itemtype editor

If you going to add stuff to itemtype.dat you have to also change the amount in there to. Like if right now your itemtype.dat is 5001 item big you have to change it to 5002 if your going to add something in there.

You need the new id your going to be using. In the first example its changing the normal BlueCrestHelmet which has an original ID of 111000, after turning it into hex (You can use the calculator thats on your computer), you get 1b198.

Now you have to revers the hex in order to find it. So it turns into 98 b1 01.

Now say that your new item id will be 999999. Using the calculator on your computer turn it to Scientific Mode, and enter 999999 then hit F5, it gives you F423F which when reversed will be 3F 42 0F..

Now you can change the ids using your new id. Change out the 98 B1 01 with 3F 42 0F.
