[Rant] WTF?

Right, this is going to be long, so if any of these attributes apply to you - LEAVE NOW.
  • short attention span
  • annoying tendancy to flame every word
  • does not know what constructive critisism is
  • a certified idiot

I found Elitepvpers a long time ago. About 3 and a half years ago, I began looking for bots on the internet about a game called Conquer Online. I found that many of the good bots came from a place called elitepvpers.com. I soon grew to love this place, and so I decided to register. At first, I would make a few comments, take a ton of hacks, do a few scans, and whatever. After a while, I began to make some friends amongst E*PvPers, some even mods. They taught me basic programming, and I learned. I donated to the community with many small tools and macros and it was fun. There were many people in the CO2 section then, and if you posted something, you would get a reply almost instantaneously. There were many great members, some ones that were not so helpful, and liked to flame new members (see .bmg), but overall, the CO2 section was a great section to be in.

After a bit, I quit Conquer, and soon after left ElitePvPers. I had been there for about a year, and posted a ton. Last month, I came back to Conquer and back to ElitePvPers to find a totally different place. Many fewer active members, less active mods, less contributers, and the some of the most valuable members of the community quitting. Replaced by people who don't know what a bot is. People, we need to change E*PvP. Learn a scripting language - start off with something easy. Contribute to E*PVP. Refer your friends on CO, I don't care. All I know is that this section is an entirely different section then when I left it.

Thanks for reading. Please reply. If anyone wants to add me on MSN - go for it. I can always use someone to talk to. :p

Welcome to the corruption and sleaze that this section has turned into. PM Lowfyr, Saloman, or any admin and plead with them to do some crack down or hire some serious mods. The only visually active mod is kinshi, the other mods (supposedly) answer reports etc, but do no form of active moderation.

Epvp has fallen into a bit of sickness, and nobody wants to do a damn thing about it but complain, so do something.

I guess it was before I started using exploits that the "item quality on the ground" thing changed to only weapons and since then exploits get fewer and fewer as TQ patches them.

Way I see it, and the recent "using free items to socket talismen" is a good example, is that the people who know how to find the exploits aren't going to release them because they'll either: get copied by everyone and his dog, or it will become so popular TQ patches it. CIDProxy is a good example of the latter.

Its kind of a conundrum and possibly hypocritical, but EPvPers could institute a rule where you just can't copy and paste someone else's exploit and call it your own.

Imo, if the pros decide not to come back, it'll just take some time for others to fill the void...but theres still the problem of TQ patching whatever becomes public. So, I'm curious whats in the Premium EPvPers section, lol.

They have one... if you repost somone elses work - clearly it is not your own and you get an infraction/ban. As said before, there are not enough active mods.

Yes, patching is an awful thing, and I can understand why someone would want to keep a great project private. However, once you release it to the community, many people can benefit from your work, and either build off of your source, or help you patch your project.

A proxy cannot be patched, as you notice 5bot works, CID would work as well if it was updated, but it isnt, because cid wants 5bot to make money, not give it away for free.

TQ cannot patch bugs for crap, they are totally crap at fixing bugs. There are still INNUMERABLE amounts of bugs in the game. There are bugs some people know that nobody else does, or very few people do. I know some that only I/very few people know, but you're right, nobody would release that because everyone will flock and say 'it's mine' or etc. This is another core reason why this section will always be declining.

loll crapp

Yeah, but him wanting to make money makes sense to me, although I know that other people disagree. Besides, say 5bot was public and free...we know how that would end so what would be the point really. Thats also why I'm curious about the Premium section--people tend to abuse things they get for free and take care of things they have to pay for. If I'm a premium member and have access to those "unknown" exploits, I'm not blabbing if I paid $30 for the privilege.

But yeah I agree with you for the most part.

Yeah, but you could always stick a little credits button on your program and not release the source... Also, I think you should be banned for credit stealing...

Also, how can a proxy not be patched? Not really familiar with proxies, but I know that after certain patches, certain features stop working... I would call that getting patched.
04/07/2009 16:25 darkcrimson_blood#9
a proxy can not be patched because it basically works as a middle man between player + server although many features which get exploited through a proxy can be patched the proxy will still work even if it will only allow basic options. By changing encryption of packets could stop the proxy from working, but this is easily overcome by cracking thier new encryptions.

least thats how i see it =x

on a side note, i do not release programs on this site for the main reason TQ has accounts on this site. if it was in ToS that any TQ affiliate and/or related company was not allowed to have access to this site then maybe people wont be as scared to release without the fear of TQ fixing. Ontop of this most of the people on this site are people in game who you really find annoying and just really dont want to share with them.

Just for convenience I copied the rules below, I was really hoping I missed something in there. Though, I don't see anything about reposting anothers work and/or anything about an infraction/ban for doing it. Maybe I overlooked something somewhere? If there is no rule, then of course the mods can't do anything about it.

Could a mod please say whether this rule exists? Thank you in advance.

- RULES -
- if you post some file which includes trojan / keylogger etc you WILL get banned
- if you flame other users you will get some infraction

- referrer links are forbidden , please edit your signature if you got some of them in your signature (if you donīt edit it , and someone of our team see it , you probably get a warning or a infranction )
- Advertising without a link back to elitepvpers is forbidden

Jeez, thats weird. I might've been thinking about the forum etiquette thing.

Quote:
One should read all the rules and guidelines (links below) established by Elitepvpers.
One should always be courteous.
Before creating a new topic thread, one is advised to search to see if a similar topic already exists.
Contributors should follow standard grammar and spelling rules and avoid slang.
One should strive to post in the correct section.
When making a technical inquiry, one should include as much technical information as possible, especially in the subject line.
Contributors are asked to stay on-topic of thread.
Contributors should avoid Reposting, Double posting and Crossposting.
To avoid appearing self-absorbed, one should respond to topics started by others more often than starting topics of their own.
Contributors should avoid the use of all CAPITAL LETTERS in posts. All CAPS is considered "shouting" and causes readability issues.
One is advised not to resurrect a very old topic if nothing significant will be added. This practice is known as Bumping, Pushing, Revival or Necroing.
One should try to refrain from lashing back at a poorly behaving member or participating in a flame war; instead, notify the Elitepvpers Forum staff of the event. Use the Report This Post link to do so.
When quoting a previous post, one should only include the relevant portion of that post. Contributors are requested to keep in mind that their audience can likely still see the message they are quoting on the same screen and can read it again if need be.
It STILL doesn't cover it in the forum etiquette!!

BTW, this is so going in my signature...

Unless that's it, but that's kind of...vague. Well, for what its worth I would suggest they add something with a little more teeth--something like what you originally mentioned, hok.

Totally agree. I don't see any consequences though. Just avoid doing so...
