First off, I'm not going to give step by step instruction. You can visit Google for in depth how-to's on running Applications such as Wine, VMware Fusion, Or BootCamp.
---------------------------------------
Options for Running CO under Linux:
---------------------------------------
Google:
Wine
or
VMware
------------------------------------------------
WineHQ.org is a free application.
It is not an emulator or Virtual Desktop.
It uses Microsoft's api's to run Win32 applications.
Wine run's CO poorly.
Install Wine under Fedora goto console and Type
'yum install wine'
Remember to log in as root.
You must already have CO installed under a
Windows Path.
Look for the path to your CO Directory
Rightclick 'play.exe' and select:
"Run in Wine Loader"
The same could be done with ubuntu.
You may need to compile and install.
Issues:
Lack of Window Focus for whisper box
Must hold ALT while typing login and password.
Runs slow.
------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------
VMware:
Use google to find the site.
Works a lot better than Wine.
Emulates Wintendows.
Ability to create multiple Virtual Desktops.
You will need a Windows XP CD with
working serial.
VMWare costs money.
Once installed and Virtual Machine is made for windows
it will run CO just fine depending on your Virtual Desktop
Settings.
Issues:
Slow. Playable.
Multiclient will freeze and crash.
CID proxy works if you update your virtual Desktop
with java and .net
------------------------------------------------
Apple Computer's
------------------------------------------------
For Apple, just make sure you have an Intel based
Mac.
PPC Mac's will not run Win32 applications.
For instants: if you have a g3, g4, or g5 mac....
This will not work.
For PPC mac you COULD install Linux and TRY to run Wine
but it will run like CRAP.
For the Intel based Apple's
Use Bootcamp.
Its free.
Needs Wintendows CD and vaild Key.
Pirate Windblower copies do not work well.
Once installed, Run CO like you would on your PC
Then shoot yourself in the face when you find you need a
mouse with two buttons to play.
------------------------------------------------
I hope this clears up some of the questions I get when I play CO on my Fedora System.
This was a HOW, but not a HOW-TO
The How to part is easy, and their are a million sites with documentation to help you get started.
Google is a gold mine. Use it.
