You can install everything you want on it, just don't forget to update the operating system which is windows server 2008 r2 SP0 to Service pack 1 (SP1) from Windows updates to be able to install MSSQL 2012.
the advantage you'll get in 1and1 is that they give you access to the rooter if you want to setup a firewall or forward ports, if you have no idea about how dedicated servers works, i suggest you to call the assistance and ask them before you buy.
