2moons egq

hello ppl
i am playing 2moons equilibrium
and i have a couple of questions
1- the data files are in .pak , and i can't find any unpaker for it, i want to unpack it
2- if i used winhex or cheat eng to m;odifiy the data.pak wihtout unpaking it, will the hack work or i need to unpack it first?
hope someone answer me and post the data.pak unpaker if it is required

note:i'v searched teh forums and can't find a driect clean answer
