A version of SQL 2012 must be Release To Manufactured (search sql server 2012 RTM, google will help)
P.S. if yr DB is Xijezu's or c1ph3r's

Make sure that your backup was made for a 2012 version of SQL,
It maybe for 2008 or 2008 R2.

Put the .bak files into an own folder, then SQL Management should show them when restoring.

This issue appears, if you did not delete your SQL 2008 server fully, before installing the new. Both servers are active and the gameserver is trying to connect with the old one. Delete the old one completely, and check if the new one is active in your SQL configuration. By the way, if you want to run it local, you should change all IPs to 127.0.0.1, on the screen I saw one, that wasn't changed.

Okay Check your services (Windows+r then type in "services.msc") Check if there are 2 MSSQL Instances on your PC.

Instances looks like "SQL Server(SQLEXPRESS)" or "SQL Server(RAPPELZ)". The Instance Name is allways in brackets.

If there are two Instances you have to remove the 2008 Instance completely or stop the Service. (Rightclick+Stop)

If there is only one Instance Running on your PC check if this instance is running.

After that check if the TCP Port is set to 1433 in the SQL Server Configuration Manager. And make sure that you did a reboot after changing the port.
