Limit thread creation

07/29/2012 22:50 Kape7#1
Hello. I'm an old user here and I've been helping around, mainly on the Silkroad section, for many years.
Since the serverfiles of Silkroad Online were released, lots of new servers have been appearing, I myself own one.
Anyway, I created this thread for ask the administration to limit the ability of create new threads (at least on the SRO Private section) to users with 1 month or older account, or with more than 20 posts. The reason is simple, while we, the common server owners, obey the rules and post our servers on the specific server posting section, people create threads on the general section EVERY SINGLE DAY, with new created accounts with no posts, for promote their server, and that behavior is never punished. I don't see fair that some servers have more promotion than others just because their admins create new accounts here and post threads here that last for few hours or even some days open until a mod see it and close it (not delete, which I see also a failure, since the server is still advertised).

So in resume, the suggestion is to limit the creation of threads to 1 month old members or limit the creation to users with at least 20 posts or something like that, if not applied on the whole forum, at least on the SRO section.

Thanks for your attention, and have a nice day!

------------------------------------

Resumed and updated suggestions:

1. Add a limit when creating threads on the Advertisment section (register-time limit or post count limit)
2. Punish more severly rules infractors
3. Give benefits to community contributors (priority on advertisment, special badges, elite*gold, etc.)
4. Add a plugin for show similar threads when creating a thread on the ask the experts section (for avoid asking the same question 9999 times)
5. Make a must-follow, clean and clear template for the Advertisment section

How this will help?:

1. The limit will avoid the spam of short-life servers or scam servers, will make the section a trust-worth source of information related to active and reliable servers, and overall will improve the quality of the section and his users.
2. By punishing users that break the rules intentionally (creating an account and posting his server on the discussion section for example) we avoid crappy and messy situations where server owners get more than a account ban punishment, for example, making his server not be able to get advertised ever on the advertisment section.
3. People rarely help if nothing is given in exchange, giving rewards for helping people will make the help section a better place. Currently many threads are ignored, I even ignore some that I could perfectly answer because it would take me some time to explain how to fix or do something and in the end for me is not worth it.
4. There are currently lots of duplicated threads on the ask the experts section. Many threads are answered there by posting a link to the previous thread with the solution, showing threads about the same theme when creating a theme can make the user get his problem solved instantly without need to wait for someone to answer or post the link to that thread.
5. Every thread on the Advertisment section has his own structure, having a common template for every server posted there will help the users on finding, understanding and getting the information they want about the server being advertised. If the administrator doesn't follow the template the thread should get deleted and the mod should PM the creator reminding him about the template structure, if the server owner is serious about his server he shouldn't mind taking 3-4 mins filling the template.

That's all for now.

really good advice! i think that they should insert this rule/function in other sections too like metin2. I hope the staff of elitepvpers will implement a rule like this for the server news section.

Well, nice suggestion.
But I can't agree to that:

We, PortalDark and me, try to look into all sections as often as possible, but this kind of people do not care about our punishments.
Also it is not hard to register a new account at elitepvpers, we simply can't prevent this.
And since Moderators can't check the IP's of the user this would be too much work for the Global Moderators and Admins to do it.

I agree to add requirements to create threads in the specific section.
But this might be a problem since many people join elitepvpers just to advertise their server here.

I agree 100% with his idea
and i say YES
We see that every single day

I must say that is a pretty good idea
i would like to add to Disco's post that advert section is always spammed with "how to" threads, which will be considered spam/wrong sections
as adding to the suggestion
making user be able to advertise after having both requirements, not just one of them( having 1 month and 20 posts at least)
this indeed is a good suggestion for the SRO section

Well good point here. Gonna "Copy 'n paste" my own Post.

Isn't it possible to make a Limit there like you only can post one Server in that Section?

I often see Server's like "SniperSRO" 2-4x in that Section.

Something like :

"You're allowed to advertise one Server! In order to open a new advertise Thread you need to delete your old advertise Thread!"

Atleast duplicating Threads won't be possible anymore...
About the 20 Post Members. Only "EPVP Members" with 50+ Posts should Post into the "Silkroad Private Advertise Section". To round it up a bit ... instead of 1 Month , 3 Months!^^

So People's won't open/spam more Threads so they can Post into the Section...

I would also suggest a plugin for vBulletin, that would be perfect for the current situation of SRO forum:

[Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]

So people get threads that are similar to his thread BEFORE they create his thread, this way we can save answering the same questions 9999 times.

it could help for normal users, but some users will post it anyway
as you said on another thread, there are users that make wrong section to advertise server just to get attention

I agree with your suggestions adding limits in creation of threads, as the pro's pretty much solve the problems you mentioned. This problem occurs in other sections aswell; your solution might fit for the whole board. Definitely something worth to be added.

Actually this is pretty much something alike our Advanced Trading Section, in which it is needed to comply with some requirements to be able to make your posts there; as well, there is the option available for making all the threads "hidden" until after a moderator actually allows it to be public or not, this is used on different sections, and could be, as well as your suggestion, implemented, maybe not only on the SRO Advertisement but on other sections that might need this feature to be active

I highly doubt that our administration will restrictthread creation for new users globally, since many people come from google to solve a problem or find a hack and if there is no suitable thread, yet, they have to create a new one or spam in another thread.
Which behaviour would be prefered?
08/10/2012 03:19 JohnHeatz#12
Definitely that wouldn't be a case, as there could be placed on specific sections, as an example on Advertising sections and/or Release Only sections, yet you are correct if this happens, there could be people complaining or not using the forums, yet, as long as it is explained, somewhere where users are actually able to read it (I have seen on some other forums, mostly Programming ones) that there is a sort of notice when they join, in which it states that in order to do some action(s) they need to comply with some requirement(s) and that is understandable.

it wont be globally but rather on SRO advertising section(if Admins want to implement it somewhere else, is up to them)
ask the experts is always open for questions, but advertise sections is always spammed with threads created over and over, specially from people trying to re-advertise their servers

Just add a 1 month min. membership before advertising any thread there. You'll see how drastically it will reduce the retard amount in that section - add a thread verification to that and it's just imba. Any advertisement threads that is looking like shit, meaning, someone didn't give a fuck to write it properly and nicely - disapproved, and you got rid of the retards - let them post their ugly ass threads for nub servers on their own lingual forums(s4arab or any other crap like that).

pushing this thread
the topic is being talked on the SRO section and this idea would be cool
