[Request] Data packer (not unpacker!)

01/07/2009 17:26 Raknohv#1
- Hello guys, ive been searching on the forums for a data.pak packer, hehe. I haven't find a single thread where they mention that. And by packer I mean, to assemble the extracted files into data.pak again.

- Anybody know about this?

Don't think there is one, if there is it wont be public.

- So far I made my research, and you just have to compress it in zip format, and change the .zip to .pak The compression formats are pretty similar, they only change the name of the extension.

- It works for me. If that ain't public, well it is now.

Thanks for saving me a load of trouble Raknohv. I was thinking I was going to have to develop a tool to do that. But from what my friend Tez said, there are multiple programs out there, that can pack it into a data.pak file. You just have to find it. That was the kicker if you missed it. Anyways, thanks for the information.

Out of curiosity, would it work the other way around? .pak to .zip?

- I haven't figured that out! .pak to .zip But It could come in handy. Probably its possible, I'll do some tests and tell ya :D

lool. what a a bunch off bullshit!! :D lol.. you guys are sooooo wrong about that :D
there is no freaking compression on the data.pak.. else you wouldn't be able to edit it with winhex :D
wanna know how it works? dekaron.exe acesses to data.hd data.hd contains filenames, filezize and fileoffset in the data.pak.
that means, if you compress your data to zip, the offsets given out by the data.hd would be totally wrong..
you guys have nooooo clue about that

- Then why is my data.pak working again for my private server? Im using the zip format with no compresion from powerarchiver 2009. It just groups the folders which came out of the extraction, into a data.pak. Totally editable, cause it has the same size as before extracting. If it wasn't like that, then it would simply not work at all.

maybe luck? maybe not o0
look into your data.hd and see what's inside. i don't believe that the data.hd is there for nothing ;)
i may try that "zip" method... but it'll be a waste of time...
IF it works, i'm gonna apologize myself for what i've written ;)

edit.. perhaps you are using a csv client :D
try to rename your data folder and try to launch the game again^^

Are you always such a xxxxxxxxxxx We're trying to open up more options, and create a easier environment and expand our knowledge of things, and all you're doing is ruining anything we get going. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

just cuz i'm saying that i don'T see any logic in that method?
what's wrong on that? am i offending someone here?
look @ your posts.. always pushing people.
my posts may at least help a little bit cuz i'm telling my experiences with those data files.
keep on searching on the black empty hole :)
if you don't like it, just ignore it ;)

ooh well guys. as you say...
but answer me 1 question.. are you even able to make a zip folder from the whole data folder? meep.. i guess not... file archive is too big..
Quote:
The original Zip file format limited the number of member files in a Zip file to 65535 files.
ok... 65.535.. sounds hexy to me, my folder contains about 59.000 files, and i'm not able to create a zip archive.
i'm pretty sure what i'm taking about.. if you open some dekaron.exe with olly debugger, you'll see instructions where the exe gets the files. the exe gets them through the data.hd.

now open that file with an hex editor. wird signs at the beginning (header infos), then 2 bytes of filesize, 2bytes of namelenght, the name, and another 2bytes telling the offset from that file in the data.pak.
IF you just zip the folder and call it data.pak, you'll have 100% different offsets (wit max compression or without compression.. doesn't matter!!)
now..
if the exe gets the file offsets from the data.hd how da hell should the exe be able to find the right files at those offsets mentioned by the data.hd??

that'S why i'm saying that it isn't possible!
i'm really sorry that i ruined your dreams!
if you perfer, next time i won't say anything and laugh about you trying to make the impossible possible.

i've got a data packer, and believe me... it's waaay different than zipping a file :/

i really don't get ya why you guys get mad at me! i'm just saying that that won't work.
it would be like... open a textfile, write your name in it, save it as text.bmp, open it with paint, and you'll see your name written in a bitmap.
se? that's kinda "not working"... the same as this one.
just trying to clear that up :/
but do like you want... go ahead, try it, and waste a couple of hours on it for nothing..

pak format is not compatible with an uncompressed zip file.
