[EN]Building a PC?

Hey guys, so, summer's here and I'm taking up a little hobby, building a PC. (This is more like re-building, I'm probably going to keep my power supply and case because they're not too bad, everything else goes.) So this is a small discussion thread for that. Here we can discuss parts, costs and whatever comes to mind. If you're doing this as well, feel free to join in!

I'm building a gaming PC, but I am not made out of money :D

Anyway, let's get started, here are some of the questions I have thought of right now.

AMD vs Intel?

I understand that choosing a processor will also influence my choice of motherboard and some other components.
AMD seems to be quite a lot cheaper (the same goes for motherboards). But is it powerful enough?
Intel is a real beast, but that also comes at a cost (for both the processing chip and the motherboard).

So, what would you recomend? (A specific model and why would be cool.)

A good brand of HDD. Hard drives are pretty cheap these days and there are no shortage of them, so I would like to know which brand is the best in quality?

Sound cards? I know that a lot of motherboards these days come with built-in necessities like sound cards, very basic video chips (that barely work). So, is getting a dedicated piece of hardware something worth doing (right now)?

That's about it, I'm going to update this thread when (or if) this thread gets comments.

~edit~

Here's a list of pieces so far, it can change depending on what's best.

Rig pieces so far:

Thank you for your time.

it all depends on the available money ...

Well, in my opinion I only need - a Processor, Motherboard, RAM, Graphics card, HDD, Sound Card (Optionally). So, I don't know, let's try and keep it within the reasonable amount of 500 euro or less.

you wouldnt have the budget for a intel with 500 ;)

i dont know if you can buy from mindfactory but i post a link anyway

so basicly get a:
-phenom II 965
-ASRock 970DE3/U3S3
-8GB TeamGroup
-Sapphire Radeon HD 7850
-1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200.14

and if you have some spare money for a soundcard get:
-Asus Xonar DG 5.1
-Asus Xonar DS 7.1
(one of both)

Well, I love the fact that the ASRock 970DE3/U3S3 has four RAM slots so that's kind of cool. I also like the 8GB TeamGroup RAM.
However, I don't think that I'll need a 1TB HDD.
Also, I don't know if the graphics card is worth it.

you can also take a 500gb western digital cavier blue
i just choose the 1tb because you get double the space for less than 20€ more
the 7850 is the best card for the money at the moment, when nvidia releases the gtx 660 and the 660 ti they could be better for the money or worse - but well you would have to wait 1-3 months for a 50/50 chance to get a maybe 10% better card or you could have waited for nothing

The main thing I'm looking for in a graphics card is DX11 support, I guess. (And a good amount of memory).
06/10/2012 18:33 TheDarkness (SC2)#8
what is the problem ?
the card has dx 11.1 2gb vram and the best card for the money while also using less energy than comparable cards

Doesn't seem to be available where I live. Any other options? (Doesn't have to be 2gb, most games get more than they need with 1)

you could also buy a gtx 560ti, but hey i think the 7850 can be delivered to all places.

would be helpfull to know "where you live" ;)

Lithuania. (Pretty much the middle of nowhere.) I don't really like ordering things online, I prefer picking stuff up from stores.

isnt lithuania still in europa ? i mean you should have acess to all parts ...

nope Lithuania is in the middle of the usa.
TheConArtist it would be helpfull to know what kind of graphic cards your stores sell.
For the next time you visit a store, check up for the gtx 560ti.

I personally don't like the gtx 560 ti. In my opinion the HD 6950/HD 7850 or the GTX 560 ti 448 cores are a lot better.
