Whats needed to create a private server?

Just curious. I know nothing about server software or what needs to be bought but i'd definitely fund an operation if i had the brains behind it. There's plenty of WoW and Lineage private servers, is that because the people from the inside leak the server-side client?

wow pretty much allows you to creat a private server you just need a program to do it (i forget what its called)
im not sure about linage. but i dont think its really possible for an AL private server, some people tried before and it never worked

that sucks, i bet people would donate enough to keep the server running, especially with not having to get ripped off by chantra fees.

search some threads from Malivictus...he was working on one. meaby you can ask him, if your lucky he will reply.

i still dont know why ANYONE with brains would want to play a private server of a shit game. i mean wtf, koreans dont like the game, chinese dont like the game, CM dont care about it it will always be full of bugs even on a private server, theres like 100s of mmos out there, dont waste time on a shitty poor developed failed game.

i guess its cos i hate the idea of private servers.
i prefere the real games with real work to be done :)

if you want to play a game play the real game
otherwise dont bother.
especially games like WoW which are never going to be anywhere near as good as official servers.
and if its a *blah blah i have to pay for it* omg a whole £18 for 60 days enjoyment.
or play a crappy messed up private server with all the same people doing all the same stuff, where skill and knowledge doesnt count, and if somthings to hard /cry to admin to lower boss rates and what not.
