Reading hex values

Hi, i was wondering to try modifying 2Moons myself and learn something, and i don't know one thing: how do you know what changes specific hex value?

When i see this numbers, i dont get nothing - i found some interesting lines i think i could modify to get something, but question is the numbers - do you use a program or just stare on it for 2 weeks nonstop until you get it?

Most of the more usefull line are explained in tuts, just search them.

But I think you can find yourself what does those number correspond to with an unpacked client or in the CRC folder. . .
