If you are planning to host it on your home connection forget aboout it. Your players will lag.

For a host it will be enough at the beginning, but if you think about hosting it at home - forget it.

Is not only about your speed, but about where you connect to. Home connections connect to an ISP after traveling through many repeaters and so, dedicated servers hosted on datacenters connect more directly to the optical fiber backbones. You will give a decent ping to players near your country, but your ping will be horrible high to people far away, it does not happen on datacenters. Also you need an static IP, and check that your ISP allows such a behavior, not all of them do support their customers to host services through their home connection.

I had a little test server on my pc with about 20-25 people on it. my upload was 5/mb
so you can get a nice starting amount of players even on small connections.
